PROFILE OF THE ORGANIZATION

The preamble of the Constitution of the Ethiopian Word Federation Incorporated:

"We the Black People of the World, in order to effect Unity, Solidarity, Liberty, Freedom and  self-determination, to secure Justice and maintain the Integrity of Ethiopia, which is our divine heritage, do hereby establish and ordain this constitution for the Ethiopian World Federation Inc".

The Ethiopian World Federation is a nonprofit-nonpolitical membership organization, incorporated in 1937 in the State of New York, United States of America and registered by the Internal Revenue Services as a 501(c) 4 (civic- league, social welfare) organization, thus making all contributions, tax deductible.

This organization came into being through the efforts of Black Americans who sent a delegation to England in the summer of 1936 to speak with H.I.M. Emperor Haile Selassie I concerning the efforts of Black people in the Americas who were raising funds to help Ethiopia defend itself during the Italio-Ethiopian War.  (The Emperor was in exile in England at that time.) In response the Emperor empowered his cousin and personal physician Dr. Malaku E. Bayen to establish the Ethiopian World Federation Inc. with the purposes set out in the Constitution. The Constitution and By-Laws are, as one would expect, a very careful and businesslike document, having articles which deal with aims and objects, membership, international officers and their duties, conventions, elections, meetings, local units, their establishment and organization, committees, impeachment of officers, units, benefits, amendments, order of business, etc.

As a direct result of the support Ethiopia received from black people in the West during the Italian invasion (1935-1941), the Emperor granted 200 hectares of land in Shashemanie, Ethiopia, to The E.W.F. Inc. for Ethiopian people in the Diaspora who desired to return to the motherland. In 1970, Ras. Marcus Selassie (Solomon Wolfe), Director of The E.W.F. Charter # 43 in Jamaica, was personally appointed by H.I.M. Haile Selassie I, to administrate the "Land Grant"

Our Mission

The major goal of The Ethiopian World Federation Incorporated, is inherent in the name of the organization. The Ethiopian (meaning all Black people), World (everywhere), Federation (autonomous groups working together), desiring to do all we can to restore the continent of Ethiopia-Africa to her former state of complete independence and self-reliance thereby effecting a socio-economic betterment of the race everywhere.

OUR ORGANIZATION:

Presently, members of the New York Local (#1) meet on Sundays and Wednesdays each week in Brooklyn. Please call or e-mail us for further information.

Because of the responsibility given to the EWF for the Land Grant in Ethiopia (Shashamanne) by His Imperial Majesty Haile Selassie I, we think our organization has an integral role to play in the future of the black race throughout the world, and especially in the diaspora.  For this, we need and ask for the support of each and every black

In 1970 His Majesty personally appointed Ato Solomon Wolfe, then the President of the EWF Local in Jamaica, as the Administrator of the Land Grant.  Ato Solomon Wolfe resides for the most part in Ethiopia and is presently in New York as a guest of the Headquarters until September.  He attended the recent annual convention held in July where he was elected Chaplain of the International Executive body. As a Senior Elder in the organization, his wisdom and personal knowledge of His Majesty and Ethiopia makes him a treasure to the organization. You are invited to meet with Ato Solomon Wolfe during his stay in New York. He will also be available to visit other locals in the U.S. and the Caribbean in the next few months.  Again, call for more information or you may speak to him directly at (718) 277-1547.
