Q: How to get goverment help for depression?
I am 18 and depressed. I was wondering if there is anyway I can get goverment help to cover anti depressents? I live in Utah, if anyone has a number or knows exactly what to do. I really need this I have a LONG family history of it and a long history of abuse as a child. I know I have a chemical imbalance and very high anxiety but I also know I am depressed, I really just want the old me back. Please if anyone knows what to do please please help me.

A: Call your county mental health authority and ask those questions. Your family dr. can help you fill out a form (you might have to get it online from the drug company and then have the dr.s office fill it out) to get free medication from the drug manufactures if you don’t have insurance- most offer a program to help. Some generics are really cheap now from the pharmacy.

I think you need therapy for your abusive past, and not drugs to suppress the symptoms, Pills won’t help you get past those issues, they just cover up the symptoms of pain. You have depression and anxiety because of unresolved issues that wil always be there if you don’t get some help.
That doesn’t mean there is a “chemical imbalance” that you need to throw pills at. The term “chemical imbalance” is a term used by pharmaceutical company’s to get your $ .
They make billions (no kidding) from just ONE antidepressant medication.

Example of relief without medication- think about how good you would feel if I said you could have a month vacation in Hawaii,no responsibilities or bills ,just sitting on a beautiful sunny beach and having a wonderful vacation.

I bet that would lift your spirits for awhile.without medication, maybe you would feel the anxiety and depression lift. Therapy can lift your depression also. Take courage and deal with your past to give yourself a better future.

Q: help writing a Depression paper?
I have to write a 5 page depression paper in two weeks. what are some study tips for it? i have never done a paper this big and it is worth 1/4 of my grade so Pleas HELP!!
FYI it’s the great depression not like depression
What would be a good question to base it around? like how about did Government involvement prolong the great depression?

A: Try this out for size:

The roaring twenty’s can be called by many names; some good, other bad. After the great war, America was looking for a return to normalcy. What it found was corruption, intolerance and greed. In the larger cities, a party atmosphere existed despite the prohibition against alcohol. All that would change on October 24, 1929, when “Black Thursday” struck Wall Street down. The Great Depression had begun.

I.) Causes of the Great Depression.
a.) Stock market crash of October 1929
b.) Prosperity could continue only if demand was made to grow as rapidly as supply.
c.) The dust bowl – American farmers—who represented one-quarter of the economy—were already in an economic depression during the 1920s,
d.) International problems also weakened the economy. After World War I the United States became the world’s chief creditor as European countries struggled to pay war debts and reparations.
e.) In addition, the United States maintained high tariffs on goods imported from other countries, at the same time that it was making foreign loans and trying to export products. This combination could not be sustained.

2.) FDR and the New Deal.

Q: How can I cope with losing a loved one? Help I’m on the verge of depression?
So it’s been almost 7 hours since my xbox 360 got the red ring of death and I haven’t been the same person. It’s like someone carved my heart out of my body and shattered it into pieces, I think I’m having withdrawl symptoms. Does anyone know any good strategies on how to get over the loss of a loved one?

A: Get a life.

An xbox is not a person.

Peace.
☺♥☻

Q: I am in completely depression, Please help me people…………………..?
Well, I am 21, And i had sex with my BF for the first time.
I really liked him, But he left me for no reason, ( he didn’t tell me anything about break up) He just didn’t call me and ignored me.
I cant stop thinking about our sexuality!
I get feel like hysterical when i thinking about our sex! (crying and laughing all the time)
My question is : how can avoid this feeling?! I think im gonna going to be an abnormal girl!
Please help me people
Thank you

A: I had the same thing happen to me…dont worry in time he will disappear like all nasty things do, you will find a better person who you can trust and truly love with all your heart

best wishes
xx

Q: could getting a kitten help with my depression?
I’ve been feeling symptoms of depression for years now from what i can remember it goes back to when i was 8 years old, i haven’t gone to a doctor because i don’t want everyone knowing about it but i’ve had this for 10 years. the only time i feel happy is with animals or my cousin (who is 3) . i am going to try getting a kitten to see if it helps but what are other ways to get rid of my chronic depression? should i see a doctor for medication? i’m 18 and have thought about suicide many times attempted when i was 13 i don’t know what would help me. any thoughts?

A: ok well ive had extreme depression..self harming..anxiety ocd and more

i went on aropax and it really helps…combined with getting a pet to care for it made me feel good something was there unconditionally….i have a cat and guinea pigs to which i adore..

but getting a pet on its own wont help unless u get medical help from a professional…and it wont just go away…i thought it would with me but it got so bad i ended up in a break down after a c section in hospital..the hospital was awesome..but i wish i got help sooner as it took alot longer to recover as i got so bad

Q: Where do i look for financial help for unemployed to carry on life and away from depression?…
Hello again, thank you for all the responses, I truly appreciate it. I’ve gone through the sites that was suggested but I am not a citizen of those country so I am not able to enjoy such a privilege in need. As I have mentioned in my earlier question which probably some readers may have missed out, that I am in desperate need in means to move on in search for a new employment and at the same to cover some critical personal financial issues and of course to survive through daily life. If such means and such situation is not critical in my life I would not go to such measures to post help on yahoo. I am pressured, stress and mentally drained from thinking so much trying to come out with a solution and was hoping maybe by posting help on yahoo will help me with some suggestions. I have no other options and no other ways to turn to. All i can is that i urgently need some opinion, advice, suggestion and help to go through this obstacle as time is really running out on me. I really hope there is somebody out there who can come out with a good suggestion and solution for me. God bless!

A: I have been unemployed for 1 month plus but I am not depressed. I pay for all my own expenses. Is there a problem? Just that I got phobia looking for job now. There are no unemployment benefits in Singapore though.

Q: I kinda had a “depression attack” yesterday. help please?
I had a terrible “depression attack” yesterday. i was getting ready to go work out and then all of a sudden i just felt incredibly sad inside. i started to cry then i threw up a few times. it went on for about 3 hours. today i kinda feel weird and awkward about it and when i think about it i feel kinda sad again. i take medicine for this. i know your gonna tell me not to think about it but its so hard not to. will i get over this?

A: Hey hun!! )
Don’t worry. These feelings are normal.
Did you know a lot of people experience these exact same feelings??? )

I am also going through the same thing right now.
You have a lot of things going on in your mind…
and it seems like nobody understands you…

You might get mad easily, or frustrated that you feel this way…
You might say “I just want to be myself again.”

Well here are some things you can do…
Its not going to be easy!!

1. Try not to focus on these feelings anymore, tell yourself “This is just anxiety, it will go away eventually. A lot of people are going through the same thing”

2. To help your anxiety, make sure you don’t smoke any weed, or smoke cigarettes, because those two things will make you hate yourself. I used to smoke weed everyday for 4 years and after I quit for a month I felt a lot better. Oh and when you smoke cigarettes you may feel like you feel a little better, but a second later you will feel even worse! ( And you don’t want that.

3. Start exercising!! Do NOT sit on your hiney.. that is the worst thing that you can do. Just go out for a run!! Start lifting weights, just make sure you ALWAYS keep busy.

4. Play a lot of video games, if you don’t like video games, then start a new hobby and just make sure you keep busy.

5. Get a part time job so your not constantly thinking all the time.

6. Don’t drink caffeine, that includes SODA/POP!! Just only water or juices.

I hope this helps. I really want you to feel better.
If you really do these things for two months you will start feeling better about yourself right away.

If after two months you still feel this way, I would recommend you go to your family doctor so they can prescribe you a anti anxiety medicine. ) Good luck!!

Q: Depression still, seeing shadows. HELP ME?
Okay, I’ve said this like twice already and get the same answer, talking to people I know. I’m a shy person, uncomfortable around people, not very sociable. I’m depressed and I can barely cope, my friend hates me and she was once my world. Now, I see shadows and they whisper things to me about my death, about my fears ETC. Am I psychotic? I feel like that sometimes. Could these shadows ever hurt me as long as I think they could ? Tell me what to do before they’re right about my death. I’m too close for question. I ask of you not to prejudice me, I cannot help what is wrong with me if you make me feel worse.

A: I have a mental health issue with people as well.I have social anxiety.Type it into your search engine and see if that fits what you are feeling about people. However that does NOT explain about the shadows and voices you are seeing and hearing. That sounds more like schizophrenia.Which is a serious mental health issue. You can look that up too.I suggest you see a doctor as these issues get worse with time. There are treatments out there but no cure.Unfortunately mental heath is not a life threatening illness so no one has ever really done a lot of research in that area. They have just started in the last 20 years or so.

Q: If I have bi-polar/depression and take prescribed medication for it, is that being a “drug user”?
Like I also have minor ADD and I take adderal. The adderal really helps with depression. It basically takes me right of it. Is this a bad thing?

A: Nope, its not being a drug user. You have a medical condition/illness which can be controlled by taking medication. It is not a bad thing to use medication! A drug user uses illegal drugs which are quite often dangerous & may not be what the buyer thinks they are.

Q: Depression help?
I get pretty depressed sometimes, usually with pms… bleh. Does anyone have any natural remedies? I’d like to try some before hitting the meds.

A: Exercise has been shown to help with depression. Also make sure you are getting enough sleep and eat healthy for the most part. That should help at least try the exercise I know that works. If you feel depressed even with that you may want to look into medications but you don’t sound like you’re depressed a lot of the time just around that time of the month so exercise might really help. Good luck.

Q: Depression.Help?
i am depressed and i dont know why? how can i get out of depression

A: First you need to talk to your doctor and figure out if it is situational depression due to something going on in your life right now, or if it is clinical depression and you need an antidepressant. Make sure to get out in the fresh air and sunlight, get exercise. Find some things that make you happy, talk to someone you can trust. And know that you are not alone, many people suffer from depression and it does get better. Try keeping a journal when you are feeling down, write down all of the things that are bothering you and all of your feelings. Just getting them out and down on paper can help. Good Luck and take care of you.

Q: depression help?
my friend is depressed. she hasnt been eating and can never sleep and she never really wants to go out anymore. ive been looking at websites about tips with depression and all of them say you should go see a therapist. i told her she should but her mom always says that she doesnt believe in depression and that people should tough it out. i make myself available to talk but is there anything else i can do? is there anything she can say to her mom? any tips would be greatly appreciated. thanks in advance.

A: There are so many suffering kids with parents who just refuse to understand.

I like the idea of talking with the school counselor. Also her pediatrician should be helpful. She could tell her mom that she hasn’t been feeling well and that she needs to go to the doctor to see if she has something like anemia. People with anemia feel lethargic. The doctor will probably want to give her a blood test anyway. She could call the doctor in advance and tell the doctor that she feels depressed but that her mother doesn’t believe in depression. The doctor can prescribe anti-depressant medication and refer her to a therapist.

The other thing you could do is call the national alliance for the mentally ill and ask for some pamphlets on depression. www.nami.org. You could either provide them to her mother or give them to the doctor so the doctor can give them to the mother.

You could call the Girls and Boys Town Hotline 800 – 448 – 3000. This phone line is available to children who can’t access their parent’s help for one reason or another.

Last year, a boy in my son’s school was so depressed and suicidal that he friends were warning his father. The father yelled at the friends. The kid asked his father if he could borrow some rope and made up an excuse for the use of the rope. He hung himself. Ignorance on the part of parents can have horrible consequences.

Q: Depression Help?
I am a 14 year old kid, my life is very depressing. To personal to release here on Yahoo Answers, and to long. And I have had serious thoughts of suicide, and I really want help.

I’m in therapy and the therapist I have is not help whatsoever.. Whenever I bring something up he either doesn’t want to talk about it and tries to move on, laughs at it, or just totally ignores it. But my parents won;t let me get another therapist.

So I know that their are depression pills out there. But like they say in the commercial these pills for teens and kids may increase thoughts of suicide. Is their some special kind of depression pills for 14 years olds. I really need help.

A: just get some exercise and you will feel better. i promise.

Q: Depression? HELP?
Alright, I need to talk and let the inside of me breath. I’m Junior, a normal 16 year old boy. Latley, a lot has happend. Finally, I got all my honor classes switched to AP. I’m really glad and all, but I feel so overwelmed..that sometimes I randomly cry. I had surgery about 1 week ago. I’m fine now, but I feel so delicate. I feel like I get very depressed, and VERY FAST. Like..I said..I cry just randomly. I get this sad and depression thoughts about my life. Is this signs of depression? or..? just a phase or something? I need help.
I would like to let eveyrone know, that I am Christian. My parents are pastors of a really lovley church. Thanks though, for the ones that gave me the option of accepting Jesus.

A: This is stress building up in your system. Even good things can cause stress–a new job, a new relationship, promotion like what you’ve had. Talk to someone, whether it be a good friend, school counsellor, or the samaritans.
Eliminate other sources of stress in your life, and maybe learn some relaxation techniques.
Antidepressants from a doctor may help, but PLEASE only use them for a short while. As in 6 mos, max. They may treat the symptoms but they’re not a cure, they don’t solve the problem causing the stress. And you can get addicted; I did. When I was in college my situation was like yours and they just kept feeding me pills. You’ll learn to deal with the pressures eventually, it’s just the shock of the new.
And don’t be afraid to admit it if it all gets to be too much. Nobody’s perfect. You don’t want to crash and burn. Make sure you take some time to relax, get some exercise, and forget about your studies from time to time.

Q: DEPRESSION??? ….!!!!…??? Help…?
I have been suffering from depression for a long time now. It resolves around school ,friends, and classes. Sometimes i even feel like dying for real. Tomorrow is my last day, and next year is going to even be worst with the drama. i need help…

A: 1. Be patient, dont ponder over things 4 long
2.nothing under the sun doesn’t have a solution, try consulting ur parents/collegues/friends if u have any problem
3.be satisfied! If u think u r the only person who is witnessing depression, then u would not have seen the sufferings of people
4.try being engaged in any activity u like
5.read any sacred book selecting any page randomly

hope 4 best… Best of luck…

Q: How to get goverment help for depression?
I am 18 and depressed. I was wondering if there is anyway I can get goverment help to cover anti depressents?
Q: best ways to combat depression ? please help?
have gone to see the gp and have got anti depressants but dont want to have to rely on the completly i wonder if anyone had combated depression and had some stratergies that worked for them

A: Even when the days seem dark for you, I want to assure you that God cares about you and wants what is best for you. He loves you (whether you feel it or not), and the Bible’s promise is still true: “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you. … The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid” (Hebrews 13:5-6).

Whenever we face a problem (no matter what it is), God wants us to turn to Him and commit it to Him. But prayer and professional medical help are not opposed to each other, and often God answers our prayers by guiding us to the medical help we need. The Bible doesn’t look down on medical help, nor does it encourage us to turn away from it. Remember that the writer of two of the books in the New Testament was called “our dear friend Luke, the doctor” (Colossians 4:14).

I strongly urge you to see your doctor or another qualified health professional about this problem. Depression, I am told, may have many different causes, including biochemical imbalances in our bodies that can be corrected with proper medication.

Most of all, I pray that you may discover in a fresh way Christ’s love for you, and learn to trust Him even when the way seems dark. The psalmist’s words are true: “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble” (Psalm 46:1).

A: Nope, its not being a drug user. You have a medical condition/illness which can be controlled by taking medication. It is not a bad thing to use medication! A drug user uses illegal drugs which are quite often dangerous & may not be what the buyer thinks they are.

Q: How well does zoloft work for anxiety disorders linking to depression?
How well does zoloft work for anxiety disorders or is there anything else better that u would recommend that would not put me to sleep. Ive feared social things, going back to school, getting a job and getting infront of people all my life Just wondering wondering if there is something that would help me have a productive life that would help my anxiety? I want even go into a store by myself I panic. Ive always been more to myself because of it no very social.

A: It works pretty damn good for me. I really don’t feel sleepy at all just better.

It’s more like your relaxed now that you don’t have anxiety. It was a change for me because I couldn’t think of a time where I was not panicky except when I was a little kid.

I started taking zoloft for anxiety/depression going on 2 months now.
I started at 25mg and am now at 100 mg, and I think I’m staying at 100.

It is truly amazing for anxiety. Anxiety has made me miserable, but not anymore.

I haven’t had a panic attack in about a month now, and let me tell you it is great. I can go out in public now without a problem, Heart palpitations from anxiety are gone, and it also helps with my obsessive compulsiveness.

Good luck, you won’t regret it!

Q: Would a Therapist or psychologist help me more…? Depression?
I’m 16. I’ve always had a hard life. Both of my parents are split up,my pa lives 3 houses down. They are both abusive mentally, emotionally and physically. I keep my emotions bottled up and I don’t know how to express how hurt and depressed I always am. So I cut. I fake smile and laugh for my friends and bf so they don’t know whats really going on with me. I feel like no one can help me unless they’ve bin where I’m at before. I think about death all the time and how fun it would be to kill myself slowly and painfully. I LOVE pain. It makes me happy when I feel pain. I get happy when I see myself and other people bleed. I laugh and get happy when other people get injured. I was also molested and raped. Molested from 6-10. Raped at 11. My mother is ALWAYS degrading me,cutting me down, saying hurtful things that would make any teen girl think cuicidal thoughts. She blames me for their split up. I want therapy so I have SOMEONE to talk to. Or is this just what normal teen girls think about? Who would help more,a therapist or psychologist..?

A: None of the things that you mentioned are your fault. I think you are having a hard life, and I think your mother is just crazy for saying you broke up the marriage, she is just trying to pass the blame onto someone else.
Children are not to blame ever. The parents are always to blame, or it is just a bad case of your parents being incompatible or unable to cope with each other.

You are crying out for help, and I think you deserve some help, go to a counselor – or a doctor or anyone to find help, keep looking until you find someone who will listen – don’t give up.

You are capable of getting past the problems your family has, to eventually have your own life, a better life than what your parents are offering you. I have a few friends that have come from totally dysfunctional and horrible families and they have matured and put it all behind them to become wonderful strong women and mothers and friends – so it is not impossible for you to rise above all of the crap in your life.

Don’t look toward violence to vent your anger, it will only make you more confused and hateful. Try and find some inner peace or a place where you can safely have some time alone to chill out.

I wish you all the best in getting help.

Q: If you apply for disability because of depression, and get turned down, does social security help you find a j?
If you apply for disability because of depression and get turned down, does social security try to find you a very undemanding job that you could still do in your hometown?

A: go to the unemployment office in your area, their job is to help people who need work to find it. also temp agencies can help, it is up to you to set the criteria of what type of work you are willing to take. while depression can be devastating it can be overcome through perseverance and the proper medical assistance

Q: Depression?
I have been suffering from Bipolar depression for several years now…somewhere around 10 years. The doctor has put me on several different medications that caused me more issues (weight gain, fatigue and other stuff like that) that I could not handle. I have not been on medicine since I had my son 2 years ago. Things seem to be getting worse lately with all the stress that has been added since my wedding in May. I have an appointment with my doctor today to try to get something to help me. It has gotten to the boilling point where I can see my condition hurting my family. Anyone have any suggestions on what medications worked good for you or someone you know? Or any other comments for me…please don’t be negative..that is not going to help me at all..it will only make it worse.
I agree with all of you. I appreciate soo much your suggestions or words of support for me. It helps.

Bill – you are right, I am lacking self-confidence but I have had that problem all of my life. It’s not something I can just snap out of by myself. I almost wonder if at times I need people around me that feel like I do so that we can support each other…I am too embarrased most the time to tell anyone about my problems.

A: I have had moderate to severe depression on and off for about 14 years now I have tried that many different medications its not funny my main complaint was weight gain or my dose of the medication would go up and up until I hit the highest dose of that medication – Im now taking Endep and although it caused weight gain to start with (for the 1st year ugh) that seems to have stopped and Im starting to ever so slowly lose the weight again – If I dont take it even for a couple of days I end up having severe depression and many panic attacks – I dont have bipolar and Endep does make you sleep but then this is one of the reasons I was put on it as I have pretty bad insomnia as well so I need the help to get to sleep… I know I havent answered your question but I gave up for a couple of years when I was pregnant and had my baby etc and things just spiraled in a downward direction until I went back to the Drs to try some new medications again – just remember they can take a little while to kick in (around 2 weeks) so dont get discouraged if they dont work straight away for you… I wish you all the best and Im glad you recognise whats happening to you before you do, do something you dont want to do.

Q: depression?
I kno that i have depression it runs in my fam and i think it might be bi-polar disorder.

some days im really fine and suicide is the last thing on my mind but other days (it comes really quick and out of nowhere) i feel horrible and just want to die bc theres no point to life at all.

i kno that i should get help but the thing is that i actually dont want to get better. i hope that i get so bad one day that i just get it over with and also i dont want to take meds for it.

i have no $$ to go to a psychiatrist or get treated and my mom dsnt care she told me its normal and that i’ll get over it. this is nuts bc now i’m just giving up. idc about school or my future nemore and i just don’t want to try nemore. plz sumone help idk what to do.
oh and by the way i dont wnt to offend but i dont believe in god and im not spiritual.
i was thinking about talkin to my councelor but hes an ass seriously he really dsnt like me and he dsnt deal with these kind of situations.

A: Is there anything happening to you that is making you depressed? I don’t know how helpful this will be, but here’s what happened and what I did.

First, I lost my father at the age of 7. He was bipolar and an alcoholic. My mother decided to leave him one day and he tried killing our entire family. My sister fought with me to get me out of the house, but I wanted to stay, even though I know he was trying to kill me. He eventually killed himself or was killed by my uncle for what he tried to do. When he died, my life was over. I became very mean and hated everyone. My mother wasn’t taking care of me properly and she began dating perverted and drug abusing men, who she allowed to mistreat me. Five years later, I decided to change my relationship with my mom. I wanted to spend time with her one day and she agreed. This was a big deal becaue we never spent time together. When her bf came home, he ruined everything. My mother told me I couldn’t go with her b/c her bf didn’t want me to go. She and I got into an argument and she hit me. I smacked her in her face, told her I hated her, and told her I wished she was dead. I got my wish about 2 hrs later. She passed out and died of a heart attack at the store. At twelve years old, I was without parents.

My disfunctional family fought about who was going to take us. The aunt without children and a house “won” two young and emotional messed up girls. Things didn’t click and I ended up moving at least 12 times in two yrs. I ended up moving with a cousin who was 41 and he raped and beat me for two years! I was only 14 at the time and I felt like I was soooooo alone in this world and had no one to turn to for love and help. Yes, I tried to kill myself, a few tmes, and thank God it didn’t happen.

I never went to a professional to get assistance with my depressioin. I went to church and read the bible. At that age, I was barely able to understand what it was saying, but some things I was able to get. I also wrote a lot. The more you write, the more you let ‘it’ out.

Despite what you may see from hypocrites who ruin things for people who are really seeking God, prayer works! Having a relationship with God makes it possible to get through the difficult times in your life, even the inherited disorders.

I seriously can relate to your issue. There have been many times when I didn’t want to get better and did things to put myself in danger without really doing anything. For example, I have a sleep disorder now after being hit by a drunk driver at 95 mph. I have to take medication to stay awake, especially when driving. Before I went to the doc, I was taking no doz. I purposefully avoided taking the pills sometimes because I just didn’t want to fight to live anymore. I also developed acid reflux really badly and not eating made it better. I got to the point where I wouldn’t eat or drink all day and couldn’t make myself, no matter how hard I tried.

I didn’t care about my future either at one point. Honey, please stay in school and make the best of your life, even if you don’t see it getting any better now. Your situation will only get worse if you quit and become dependent on others. A successful life will make you able to change your current situation.

Please don’t give up!!! THere were so many times I felt like that. I actually thought that God put me on this earth just to suffer. I know believe that everything we go through is for a reason.

Even if you’re not going through anything that’s that bad, being bipolar will make it seem that way. If you don’t want to go on meds, please remember to pray and work on your relationship with God. Also, this might sound weird, but eat properly and eat your protein. Diet has a lot to do with depression as well.

I’m sorry your mom isn’t supportive. You need someone that will take care of you, and I know first hand that God can and will take her place. Many people go through depression like symptoms and they are passed off as being normal, but it’s not if it lasts for two weeks or longer and reoccurs.

The world needs you and don’t forget that. Suicide is a very selfish action and if you believe in what the bible says, you’ll go to hell if you do it. Even if you don’t believe that, wouldn’t you want to be safe….just in case.

Please try praying to God and writing you feelings down on paper. God loves you and will heal all wounds.

I’ll be praying for you

Q: how was montreal affected by great depression?
i need help for a project that is due tmw please help me
i need to write a story on a family in the 20’s and 30’s in montreal who suffered because of the great depression i just need help on how citizens were affected
thank u

A: Pretty much the same as families all across the country. Some were okay if they still held a job and hadn’t been playing in the stock market. But others were in serious trouble. Businesses went bankrupt and that means thousands of people were thrown out of work. And no one was hiring. If you lost your job, you sometimes had to go on relief. Single men went to relief camps where they earned 25 cents per day, but at least they were fed and had a place to sleep.

Q: medication question, please help!?
I have anxiety and ADD and very mild depression. My doctor has me on welbutrin, i have been on that for 2 weeks. It has helped with my depression but not the anxiety or ADD. Well i went to the doc today and she put me on Buspone (sp?) i took it this afternoon and it made me extremely tired. I have taken adderall from friends before in the past for school and it does miracles, i feel weird asking her for it because i dont want her to think i am abusing it. I just really need it. Can i ask her for Adderall? or will she just laugh at me?

A: Continue taking buspone for a few days and see if the effects are any better. If they’re not, tell your doctor it doesn’t work. I don’t suggest getting adderall because it’s very addictive and you have to take it several times a day, and each time you take it you crash, which is miserable. I take vyvanse, which is long-lasting, and it’s much better than adderall. The effect isn’t as extreme, but it’s livable and vyvanse isn’t addictive.

Q: Prove that Hitler was innocent, providing one witness?
Need to provide 1 witness, facts that he was insane and was not responsible for all his actions, and some sample questions you can ask that witness in providing that Hitler was innocent and should not be held responsible for his actions.

how the great depression helped hitler rise to power ?

A: Innocent? He was a calculated fanatical first rate killer, a man who had in fact passed an ‘execution order’ on the European Jews and I may add, before the ”Wansee conference’ took place. He certainly was very aware of his actions at the time.

My youngest step son was put on this med. almost five years ago. When he takes it he is calm and sleepy. When it wears off before the next dose he gets chatty until dose time. Not all people get all side effects. A drug works for some people and not for others. Keep track of how you do on any and all drugs so you can give good feedback to your doctor to help get on the right meds. for you and the right dosage. God bless my friend. I hope this helps. Love, Makwa/Jo:)

Q: Anxiety & Depression?
Ive been on paroxetine and beta blockers for years for anxiety & Depression. And they helped me very well, but i have just ecently had a really bad attack of anxiety/depression again, where i just want to cry,and i feel really scared again all the time with physical feelings of extreme tiredness, achy joints, and other unpleasant physical effects, even though ive still kept on my pills. What i want to know is has anyone heard of 5HTP? and what they know of it?

A: 5-HTP calms moods, relieves depression and aids sleep
5HTP is the direct precursor to serotonin, alleviating the harmful effects of worry and stress. Stress causes more serotonin to be released into the body, and the longer the period of stress the greater the danger of serotonin depletion. Low serotonin levels are associated with irritability, aggression, impatience and anxiety, and significantly decreased levels in serotonin have been found in suicidal patients.

Some patients that fail to respond to standard antidepressant drugs found relief in 5HTP. The benefits of 5HTP are very similar to those of L-Tryptophan, such as the assistance of sleep and alleviation of age related mental depression, as well as alcohol withdrawal. Unlike other antidepressants, such as L-Tryptophan which has other roles throughout the body, 5HTP affects the brain only.

Dosage:

Q: anxiety, depression…..?
i know i need help…. but i really really dont know what to do.
i dont want to talk to a stranger. and people i know jsut dont get it.

i really feel like im loosing my mind i just want it to STOP i dont think i can deal with it going on and on but i cant talk to a stranger……

A: I have been through a similar feeling myself when my brother died.
I felt like i was going out of my mind, that nobody understood and that i just didnt want to go through this any more.
After 2 years my husband couldnt cope and rang a phsyciatrist who made me call him to make an appointment. I can honestly say it was the hardest thing i ever did.
I didnt want to go but my husband drove me and sat in the care for an hour while i was in the room.
It helped me so much. I still suffer depressive episodes and anxiety attacks sometimes but my head feels clearer, like i can rationlise thoughts. I went for a year and every week was so difficult, but i did it and it helped me.
I have a better relationship my husband and family. cope with making decisions.

It will be so hard but you need to talk to a professional.

Q: I have depression and anxiety, how do I become more motivated?
I know that exercise is one of the best natural remedies for anxiety/depression. It can also help me cut down on my meds… but I can’t seem to get the motivation… I have enough trouble getting out of bed in the morning or doing things I love to do, let alone exercise. Has this happened to anyone else? How did you overcome it? Gain motivation etc?

A: To some extent, you just have to suck it up and make yourself do it. You could get your meds adjusted some more so you have less depression and then you will have more energy and then exercise more & hopefully be able to cut back the meds more.

What I do (not that I’m perfect, hell, most americans don’t exercise even when they aren’t depressed!!) is make up an exercise music CD with my favorite loud, rocking hits and put it on really loud and just dance stupidly with a lot of kicking and stuff. I look like an idiot & I make hubby go away, but it really works!! I put some squats in there, too. The other thing I have done is created chores that have to be done, and they require lots of exercise, like keeping a vegetable garden, going deer hunting (hey, it saves us money!!) and burning wood (which also saves lotsa money). When I lived in the city, down in Los Angeles, I’d bike to the grocery store or walk to the corner store, and use a bus to go further, which meant a walk to the bus stop. Now I went the other way and I’m totally rural, and walking to the granary is a hike, even.

You might have to take those pills forever, depending on you. Some people have depression for all their lives. I hate it when people get on here and act like depression isn’t a bonafide medical problem. Heck, your brain is malfunctioning! It could be temporary and get better, or maybe it won’t, and you don’t have a lot of control over that part. Hopefully you will be one of the people who gets better!!

Oh, another idea is to get some social support. got a friend who will walk with you and make you go out? maybe even guilt you out for a few weeks until you get in the habit?

Summary:
force yourself
Listen to your favorite music, played loud
Create chores that require exercise
have a friend make you do stuff

Good luck!!

Q: What would a doctor do for my anxiety/depression problem?
I think my anxiety/depression is the problem with my chest pain and getting startled easy. I worry about a lot of such, such as having to work and how stuff can get paid. What will be done. Sometimes I just want to take a drive to see my best friend an hour away. I think that could help me.

A: A Doctor would talk to you about the problem you have then they will more then likely send you to some counselling. Then they would prescribe you some anti-depressant tablets to help you deal with the problem.

Q: In your experience, has cannabis treated your anxiety and/or depression?
I am thinking of getting medication for what I currently consider as moderate depression and anxiety. I believe that the more natural, the better when it comes to depression and anxiety medication. I always read about anxiety and depression medication as having some pretty serious side effects. That is why I’ve been thinking about getting a cannabis permit (I’m in CA) to help me relax a little.

I am interested in a few of your experiences with weed and anxiety/depression and if it helped you.

I don’t want it if it won’t help me.

A: Cannabis has been known to worsen anxiety in those suffering from mental disorders. The first study in my sources says “Weekly or more frequent cannabis use in teenagers predicted an approximately twofold increase in risk for later depression and anxiety”. The second study says “Frequent cannabis use is associated with increased AD in young adults independently of whether the person also uses other illicit drugs.”

Cannabis has also been found to be a trigger for psychoses. 3rd study: “cannabis is an independent risk factor for schizophrenia.”

4th study: “lifetime cannabis dependence is significantly associated with an increased risk of panic attacks.”

As such, I would not recommend that anyone with any history of mental disorders would use cannabis.

Q: What is a good anxiety/depression medication that is cheap?
Well I dont have insurance and right now I’m on Wellbutrin XL 150 mg. But when I go out the anxiety dont seem to be any better so now I am going to be taking two pills a day. So that would be like 300 mg. But I’m thinking bout talking to my doctor about gettting on a brand that is basically for social anxiety and depression. But I have no insurance and I can’t spend a million dollars on pills. So what would be a good brand for me to get on? Non-generic and generic brand? Please Help..

A: wellbutrin is get for some people in kick depression, but because of the nuerotrasmitters it hits, its not good for anxiety at all. you really need to hit serotonin if anxiety is a big component for you. lexapro is the stronger serotognic antidepressant, and has the fewest side effects (less likely to gain weight) and it seems to help most with anxiety. however without insurance it costs about 120 dollars a month. a second line of choice would be a generic drug, like paxil (paroextine), prozac (fluoxetine), celexa (citapram) zoloft, or luvox (fluvoxetine). prozac is generally considered second best after lexapro, because fewer people gain weight on it. also, a lot of medication works for a couple of years and then just stops working, but prozac seems to have been working for some people for over then years continously.

Q: Can anxiety cause depression and vice versa?
I have anxiety problems, but I get depressed sometimes on and off. Just wondered if the two are linked? I made my doctor make me a referral to a psychiatrist, but I don’t know if it’s going to do anything for me or I believe it won’t. The doctor made a referral for my OCD, but will they also help me out with other anxiety/depression and life issues?
The other problem is my mother does not believe in psychologists or psychiatrists, and that I should be able to deal with things on my own…but I just don’t feel like that’s the case.

A: I had anxiety and depression for over 15 years. I had everything medical done for me. Psychiatrist, meds, eatting right, super vitamins, exercise, support groups, you name it. Nothing gave me real peace.
then, 3 1/2 years ago, a freind invited me to a bible study group. I thought I knew the bible pretty well. Turns out I knew facts, but did not understand grace. I thought things like “God helps those who help themselves’ was in the Bible. It was not, that was Bengermin Franklin. In an amazing moment, I recieved the unconditional love and acceptance of Jesus. I stopped trying to be in control and I trusted this amazing loving God who keeps me in perfect peace. I put the word of God in my heart instead of worry and repeated it when I was tempted to worry. I was overwhelmed with such a sence of well being and peace and I will never go back. I got off 17 medications, my depression lifted instantly, and my anxiety greatly decreased. Also, in three months, my income trippled and I fell in love with a wonderful man whom I later married. Gods real love- not what I hear on t.v. preachers or church, but the real presence of God entered into my soul. I am on a journey of greater peace as I trust in Him. Yes, I still have feelings of fear at times, but Gods Word brings me back to a safe place. Depression is caused by anxiety. Once I learned that I can trust in Gods goodness and faithfulness, Everyhthing came together.
I am holding on to free speach and the sure knowledge of one who was in your shoes and got healed. If you are tired of christains who want you to experience Gods love, remember it feels like I thought I would feel if I ever won 100 million dollars, and I am trying to give it all away! I got further teachings and counseling on how to live a peacefull life from mentors at a church I later found. For free.
Try going to Alpha. Good place to start.

I hope you get feeling better and with HOPE!!!

Q: Natural remedies for anxiety/depression and excessive worry?
I am suffering from post partum depression and the Percocet really makes me relax and feel like I have hope. I was given it for my c-section. I was wondering if there are any natural things I could take that could have a similar effect. Not anything bogus or fake, but something that actually helps with depression and anxiety. Something to make me relax. Any help is greatlyaappreciated I want to enjoy my little boy!

A: All I can suggest is St Johns Wort but you have to take it everyday for it to work and it doesn’t even work on some people. But you can give it a try. Before you take anything though, I still recommend talking to your doctor about it if you’re taking other medication.

Q: What foods and supplements can I take to help me with anxiety, depression, and poor concentration?
I already know about exercise and anti-anxiety meds. I’ll consider all that stuff in due time. My mom suggested that I should eat flax seeds. The problem I have with that is that I have no way of knowing whether they are safe to eat. If you are going to suggest that I take some people, please ensure that it is “China free,” so to speak.

A: Green leaf lettuce and green leafy vegies are good as they are high in B-Vitamins which is essencial for your nervous system and brain and all systems really.
Foods high in trytophan are good like Bananas, avacados and samon.
Avoid carbonated drinks as they rob the body of calcium, magnesium and Bs. Also avoid white flour sugar and caffiene.
A good product to take as well is BTotal solution. It’s a liquid B vitamin you dispense under your tongue.
Also have your D vitamin level checked by your doctor. That can affect your moods and nerves drastically.

Q: What would be the best medication to treat social anxiety, depression, and fatigue together?
I have finally admitted/realized my difficulties with these issues. I want to get help, but am not sure exactly what kind of drug I should try. Of course my Dr. will work with me on this decision but I would like to get some feedback from users. He previously put me on xanax for the anxiety and it definately lessened after popping the pill, but I don’t like how it makes me feel fatigued and loopy. I realize there is no wonder drug but I would like to know if there is any one drug to combat all three conditions…anxiety, depression, and fatigue. All this, keeping in mind that I really don’t want to have the sex drive or weight gain issues as I already have a low sex drive and have recently gained 10 pounds. Any HELP is appreciated…so while I do respect and usually agree with all you anti-medication people…I have made the decision to try some so please spare me your disapproving lectures. Please help! Thank you all!

A: Pls call your dr for a referral & make an appt re your depression with a psychiatrist. He will know which drug to take in addition to the anti-anxiety drug. Sometimes it takes awhile to find the right drug but whatever will work would need a prescription. Avoid an over-the-counter drug as you don’t know how it would react with the drug you are taking.

I would ask for a referral to a psychiatrist. After the initial visit you could make 15 min appts on an as needed basis. A family dr is not experienced in finding the proper meds for psychiatric illnesses.

Good luck to you. Don’t waste time by putting it off. The sooner you get started the sooner you’ll get well. From one who knows.

Q: Can you get discriminated for an anxiety/depression disorder that has been treated with medicines?
I applied for a postion working for the government. I passed the drug and physcial exam except for the medicines that I am taking. I received a phone call from the company because they want more information about the medicines that I take for anxiety (for panic attacks which then resulted in depression because I had no idea what that was and was in denial about it). I passed the physical exam but the doctor won’t sign the paper until I talk to a counselor. If I was diagnosed in 2004, which is two years ago, can they
rescind the job offer? I have been stabalized on medication so I do not know why it is an issue. It is a huge corporation but it is private. The nurse will not be in for the phone “evaluation” tomorrow but will call me on Monday. Should I be worried? This phone call created more anxiety!
Thank you for your help!

A: I sincerely don’t think they can rescind the job offer based on a mental health illness that you are being treated for. If this were the case, most of the population would be unemployed!
Your personal medical files are private, because of the HIPA laws. You actually don’t have to give them any information.

Q: Anybody With Anxiety Depression Ever Wake Expecting It To Be Gone Yet Get Depressed When They Find It Has Not?
You ever feel really good .and you have anxiety and depression..feeling really good on a particular day and go to sleep that night expecting to wake not depressed and anxious the next day because you know that you are better only to have depression kick in the first thing and make you so sad to realize it hasnt gone and you are back at square on only worse?Lately I have been dealing with both and doing a great job staying busy and doing things that needed to be done and i wanted to do ,but for the last few days I keep waking to find its not going anywhere soon. Its a bizarre feeling to know you have something you don’t know if anything is ever going to help and cant escape from and go to sleep at peace and find it only to reappear the next day.Is there no escaping this?I am suppose to be better yet the mornings bring doubt and depression from false hope.I am seeing a therapist and taking meds and doing all the right things. Will there ever be an escape?

A: I know exactly how you feel. I’ve been this way since my early teens and I’ll be 58 this year. Until they find the cause of this hellish disease there’s only drugs and therapy. I am a fighter but sometimes it gets me good. No one can know the pain and suffering. Please, please keep fighting. God bless and keep you.

Q: How does anxiety/depression effect eating/digestion?
I’ve been having anxiety issues since August, but lately it seems to be taking it’s toll on my stomach and digestive process.. I’ll get this rumbling in my stomach, not the like hungry kind of rumbling, but this weird thing that leads to gas and feeling like I have to use the bathroom. I didn’t go through any weight changes, but my stomach definitely seems a lot more sensitive to what I eat.

I’m not sure if it’s just a thing triggered from anxiety with the nervous system, or if it could be an entirely different digestive or bowel problem that I should get checked out. All I know is that I CAN’T STAND IT. Please help!
Haha, here I was thinking that the bowel problems were an entirely different thing, which only gave me MORE anxiety. Lmaooo. Thanks so much!

A: I went through a rough time and had the same problem. If you’re having major anxiety issues, see your doctor so you can get anti-anxiety medication. Your body needs food even if you’re not hungry because of other emotional problems, so don’t jeopardize your health.

Q: Is there such a law that says that a person diagnosed with a mental disorder (anxiety, depression, ect,can not?
Is there such a law that says that a person diagnosed with a mental disorder (anxiety, depression, etc.) can not lose their home to foreclosure if he/she is seeking professional help?

A: The mortgage company does not care if there is a mental disorder. They just want their money. They can foreclose on anyone who is behind on payments, including those with any type of medical disability.

Q: I want to work Helping with depression but have no school at this time, where can i work at?
I want to help people understand that life is not all about depression I am going to go to college majoring in behavioral science but i would like to work helping people wit their depression. Maybe even at a call center or a crisis center any suggestions where i should try. I live in the state of utah.

A: You could volunteer at a call center and be a crisis counselor. These types of jobs normally aren’t paid, but you’d gain experience of how to deal with people that have different behavioral disorders.

Q: How effective is counseling for helping with depression?
Okay so I have been feeling pretty depressed lately. I am having trouble caring about anything and sometimes feel like everything is pointless. Some times I think about killing myself but I would never actually do it, mostly because I wouldn’t want to traumatize my brothers. So I’m just wondering if anyone has had counseling and/or knows if it is helpful for dealing with depression. Thanks for whatever you can give me.

A: I have had talk therapy several times in my life, and it always helped lessen the stress and loneliness, while I also learned good coping skills.

The most helpful (to me) kind of talk therapy focuses on self-esteem and self-knowledge. I was in talk therapy for 3 years before I was diagnosed bipolar, and it helped me have the insight to diagnose myself. The therapist used Rational Emotive Therapy, or RET, which gets you to focus on how you talk to yourself in your mind, to recognize negative ideas you keep suggesting to yourself, and how to change your thought processes to a more neutral or realistic, less emotionally-laden way. It was not confrontive or uncomfortable, and it taught me to, in a sense, be my own therapist. The book, “Feeling Good” has just been reissued and is a great help.

Another, slightly newer therapy approach is Cognitive Emotive Therapy (CET). It not only gets you to think of yourself and your situation in a neutral way, it also puts a positive spin on things. It will boost your self-image and self-esteem. I did most of CET in a group setting, but the 1:1 therapy really helped.

A third (group) therapy is Wellness Recovery Action Plan (WRAP) training. This training is firmly rooted in CET and was developed by the highly regarded Mary Ellen Copeland. In it, you and others explore what is looks looks when you feel good, then when warning signs appear, all the way to breaking down. You develop a crisis recovery plan to help you and your own 5 chosen helpmates (can be your doctor, siblings, parents, friends, therapist, etc.) get you out of crisis. You learn from the others in the group, and you learn insight into yourself.

Killing yourself would definitely traumatize your brothers in a big way. My father, sister and cousin have all committed suicide, and it plays a big number on you. Not the least is anger and guilt, no matter how irrational.

There is hope, but you’ll have to work for it.

You didn’t mention antidepressants. I have taken them for 30 years with generally positive results. I could not have made it without them.

Best of luck to you, and I hope thay you are in therapy and feeling better very soon!!!!

Q: Does flax seed oil have the same benefits as fish oil in helping with depression?
I have grief-induced depression that my doctor doesn’t think is serious enough for antidepressants but should be treated, and she suggested taking fish oil everyday because apparently it’s been helpful for teens who are mildly depressed. The problem is that I am a vegan, so I don’t want to take fish oil, especially since they come in gelatin capsules. I’d like to take flax oil instead, but I don’t know if it would be beneficial. Please let me know. Thanks! : )

A: Most nutritionists and doctors who are carnivores maintain that fish oil is superior to flax oil for omega 3. Most forms of the oil are available in liquid form as well as capsules. So the liquid form would avoid the gelatin problem. Regarding your vegan beliefs, you will just have to follow your heart and spirit.

If you try flax or fish oil, I highly recommend Barlean’s brand as one of the best. Also, for depression, pay more attention to getting high levels of EPA than DHA in your oil. The former is more for emotional issues, while the latter is more for physical stuff. At least, that is what I read somewhere.

Remember that you can get omega 3 in foods. Here is an interesting site. http://ezinearticles.com/?Foods-Containing-Omega-3-Oils&id=475518

Plus here is a huge link for finding omega 3 in foods.

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&rlz=1T4DKUS_enUS302US302&q=omega+3+foods&btnG=Search

Q: Does Zoloft Help you lose weight along side helping you with your depression?
A friend told me that Zoloft can help you lose weight because it helps minimize your appetite for anyone who has taken it
Does Zoloft Help you lose weight along side helping you with your depression?

A: I gained a lot of weight on Zoloft, and I know of a few people who have also.

I guess it just depends on how your body metabolizes the medicine.

Q: How much schooling is needed to be a therapist helping people with depression or just their problems?
And what would I major and minor in (or should i do a double major)

A: There are different types of therapists…. with different empahsis.. ……… to be a therapist it takes at least four years after high school for the minimum counseling……. most people get their masters degree (two years at least) then their Phd or MD…another 2 to 4 years after masters degrees…….
Most schools have prerequisites for each type of degree……… the first four years of college are pretty basic with emphasis in the psychology , and subjects related to your major……..
Each university assigns a school advisor to you, to help you get the right classes, and courses for each level……..that is what they are there for, to help you and to talk to………
So , all you have to do is research the different types of therapy, decide what you want to do……..and go do it…….
examples
social work
psychology
clinical psychology
counseling psychology
organizational psychology
educational psychology
medical school /psychiatry
etc……..

Q: What jobs are there that deal with helping people with depression etc. But not a psychologist or a clinician?
I want to help people, but I want to be a shoulder to cry on or a motivational help. I have no idea if you can get paid to do that.

A: Bartender, and the tips are great …….and no long term schooling required.

Q: What techniques are good for helping a person suffering from depression?

A: Call them up every day. Make plans then go pick them up. Try something new together. Distract them with just about anything. Encourage them to do something they’re always wanted to do, then help them do it.

Q: What is the Republican plan for helping USA economy avoid a depression?
can you list the top 3 things that they generally would like to see happen?
Be sure to address the part about how the layoffs are stopped, the foreclosures stemmed and millions of new jobs are created.

Thanks.

A: I can’t speak for the Republican party-just for myself. but I have a plan! Here’s part of it.

My plan-

Step 1-stop Obama’s orgasmic spending spree

Step 2-Stop Pelosi’s spending orgy.

Step 3-Get the government out of the way of business and stop the government’s attempts to tax them out of existence!

Let the companies fail-and be replaced by new ones that can manage their money better.

Let the homes be foreclosed on-and let other people who have been more responsible finally buy the homes they have been saving for.

Let the companies who have been careful and responsible take advantage of not being taxed to death. They can then take their hard earned profits and expand, give raises to their employees, hire the people who were laid off, and then we all canwatch the ones who lost their homes buy new ones in a more stable and stronger economy.

Q: how would you suggest helping someone who has waves of depression?
meaning fine all day but once night rolls around all you want to do is lay in bed and not talk to anyone or see anyone.
you don’t feel sick but you can’t stand to look at anyone or even talk.
may i add that going out only temporarily takes my mind off of it. then once i’m home again it starts.
i have a pet.

A: Hi

I felt like this. A friend suggested St John’s Wort. It’s a flowering plant that is effective for some people with mild depression.

One website says: “Patients suffering from depression received relief, increased appetite, more interest in life, greater self-esteem and restoration of normal sleeping patterns.”

There are many places selling it online and on the high street but the prices vary wildly. You could try your local Holland and Barrett shop or search online.

Do not take St John’s Wort if you are on the contraceptive pill as your pill will not work! Re-read the label on any other medication you’re taking as it affects how quickly some drugs leave your body.

As a free side effect, some people find they get drunk quicker. Works for me!

I genuinely hope that does help you,
froggie

Q: Why won’t people give FDR credit for helping to end the depression?
Within the first 100 days of his administration(1933), he put together work programs that put an estimated 2 million people to work. He solidified banks by loans.

He even took a pay cut along with congress to help out.

A: Because they are free market ideologues that believe that government can only hurt the economy, not help. So they can’t admit that FDR did anything to improve the economy. If they did, then they would have to abandon or modify their free market theory.

Q: Dealing with and helping a partner get over depression?
My boyfriend and I have been together for a year and a half and we’ve gone through our share of problems like any other couple but I can truly say that we have a great relationship. He’s always shown signs of anxiety and depression but now its gotten really bad. He talks about how he feels like he’s not gonna live much longer and how he doesn’t know why he’s alive. He says that if it werent for me he would be dead or in a mental instution. He’s just started going to counseling, but it hasn’t been a good month and it hasn’t really helped yet. I just need some suggestions on what I can do to help him and what i can do to keep my own composure at the same time. If anybody knows and good websites or any good medication with minimal side effects please let me know.

A: Sorry you’re both going through this. For yourself, it’s important that you keep your friends and hobbies and work – not letting the depression control your life and drag you down.

There are SO many treatments for depression so it’s not really a matter of IF he’ll get past this but when – as long as he’s willing to pursue the different avenues of treatment.

There is therapy, but often depression/anxiety is physical, so it’d be like a diabetic seeing a therapist for treatment instead of taking meds.

There are a LOT of different types of medication. He can speak with his doc or a specialist to see what will work best. The important thing to communicate, in my opinion, is that the doc will stick with him and work with him until they find the best solution.

The good thing is that often with meds, even if the first one isn’t perfect, there is some improvement so the battle gets easier.

You can research the different types of anti-depressants online. One side-effect of some is lack of sexual interest so it’s good to be aware of that so you don’t feel like you’re doing something wrong if he starts on meds and your sex life drops off a bit.

Some meds can be used to treat depression AND anxiety at the same time. There are also meditation C.D.’s that can be used, yoga/exercise can be helpful and, truthfully, if he feels he needs to be in a hospital for a while there’s nothing wrong with that. It’s a safe place with no pressure where they can work on solutions for him and stabilize him and then he can head back to life.

Deep breaths. Sounds ridiculous but deep breaths for both of you. Depression is becoming somewhat common these days because there is so much bad news. But the truth is there’s a lot more good – we just have to open our eyes.

Stick with fun, positive, light activities. Do things you both love to do. Recognize that this will pass and there is a solution to depression. A lot of people are willing to help him. He just needs to reach out and keep trying until he finds the solution that’s right for him – and it IS out there.

Help him (and you) stay present instead of replaying bad stuff from the past or worrying about the future. Just stay in this moment where things are just fine. Notice how the temperature is comfortable, how you’re feeling good because you’ve had something to eat, how the birds are singing, the sky is blue, etc. Staying present can be a powerful key to help with anxiety and depression.

Q: Is there way of helping my depression or do I need to go see a professional?
I realized, that through all that’s happened last year, I feel really damaged. Alcoholic, Coffee-Holic, IBS-ism, “driving others in my word insane” Attention crave, social crave sex drives, anger and such high level of dissatisfaction to myself really has damage my self esteem. I want to be happy with my self.

I’ve always been a tough girl, tomboy in some aspect. And at those time, I wasn’t afraid of getting slapped, kicked and most of all to fight back. I had great friends (you know kids with problems always gets friends lol). It all doesn’t matter now, because I cant look at anyone eyes without a sense of guilt. I don’t appreciate or treasure my skills anymore, I cant be proud of anything, I cant make up conversation, I feel burned each time I make a social contac. I feel that every time I give something to others, and consider them above me, they never once do the same back to me. everything I do, I only expected the worst. How can I be happy with myself?

A: all changes first have to come from yourself. Seeing a professional will help, but you have to start focusing on your good values! there must be something you’re doing thats right. What skill did you have? how can u redevelop it? dont take yourself too hard and try to laugh at bad times (proven to release negative energy!) be happy =D

Q: How does this sound for helping depression: regular acupuncture, st John’s wort, b vitamins, and exercise?
I really don’t want to take meds.

A: Especially the exercise!

B vitamins? B long from Montiff is your best bet… Google them.

Acupuncture? Great treatment.

St. John’s Wart? Make sure its a “nutraceutical” a regulated product that has not lost its efficacy through processing.

But, most importantly is exercise!

I know of other ways to help support your ability to have an emotional floor and maintain overall wellness naturally, so you can discuss this with me.

I will share my family members who have suffered depression and have gotten off of all medications and how they did it. It’s all unique, but offers knowledge as an educated mind will make an educated decision.

Q: Is there a legal prescription I can get from my GP like marijuana for helping depression (serious question)?
I don’t want to relapse though, so would medicine and anti depressant things not be a good option?

A: depends on where you live. And Marinol is nowhere near as good as real marijuana because it can never be marijuana’s biological form. Also I have heard that it doesn’t work like smoking real weed does. If you can’t get it legally..oh well. Just find a nice dealer don’t be scared. Alot of people, all kinds of people at that, smoke weed.

Q: Does Zoloft make you more depressed then helping you with depression?
I take Zoloft & i just wanted to know if it makez you more depressed then helping you with your problem of being depressed.

A: It is not uncommon for people coming out of depression to commit suicide before they are all the way better. What happens is they have the depression, but they have more motivation to do *something*. The something is often suicide. This was a problem long before the SSRIs.

Q: Can anyone help me find a good online depression support group in Australia?
I am on medication and suffer from chronic, long term, clinical depression. I live in a small town and feel I need a suitable support group, particulaly during acute episodes. Sometimes Lifeline is not an option, and I thought that maybe a reputable support group may help me. There are so many sites on the net I don`t know where to start, or who to trust.

Q: Are there any free online depression chat rooms that actually work?
I need to talk to someone really bad and just need a chat room or something to help me….something that will actually work and not just be all look at my web cam type of garbage? Any suggestions please? I’m kinda desperate!

A: CHATROOMS/FORUMS: www.depressionchat.com/ & www.depressionforums.org/ & http://www.depressiontribe.com/ & http://www.takethislife.com/ & http://www.experienceproject.com/groups/Battle-Depression/109 & www.twing.com & http://www.careplace.com/ & http://dailystrength.org

Q: Should i be concerned if online depression assessments me i have moderate depression?
Are these assessments accurate, or are they mainly scare tactics? I do feel sad sometimes and i dont do much or eat much, but im not really all that sad.

Should i seek physiological help? Is this help free or really cheap if you have heath insurance because i am a poor college student with little money.

A: it’s really a personal desicion, but if you feel like you would benifit from help, your school probably has a therapist on staff who can help you for little or no charge. i see a therapist every other week and it has changed my life. i wish i would have started sooner.

Q: Would you join an online depression group?
How and how much do you think they would or wouldnt help you?

A: I probably would. Might help you discussing and gaining opinions and answers on personal stuff…

Q: Teen Depression online help groups?
I’m severally depressed and suicidal. I need help and I don’t feel like bothering anyone else… considering my depression turned my whole family and friends against me. They all have given up on me and I’ve just about reached my limit. all i need it is someone or a group to talk to.. I guess.. I don’t know.

A: well, there is a site that i go on that answers questions on just about anything. they dont 100% answer back, but you can read about stories like yous and read their answers. it has helped me sometimes. if you want you could talk to me *shrugs* i know how you feel =)

http://www.teengrowth.com/
^^ the site. yeah, its a little weird, but oh well

Q: Can someone give me a link to an online depression test? I have searched on google.com but I am uncertain.?
I posted a question earlier about the symptoms of depression and got some really good answers. But I was going to print out the depression test and take it to my doctor, But I don’t know which one is right for me.

Many thanks to anyone who offers help!

A: I wouldn’t go for a specified list. It can put ideas into your head and make diagnosis harder. It would be good to write down what your experiencing, how long, maybe even what brought it on, if it’s better some days, physical symptoms, etc. Write down what you want to ask your doctor that way you don’t forget once you get there. And a lot of doctors do have questionarre forms for you to fill out. Good luck.

Q: Depression online quiz?
I think i may be severely depressed. but i feel normal most of the time. is there like an online test to take to see if i am actually depressed? i don’t want to go get help and figuere out i dont need it cuz i’m not depressed so i need something like an online quiz to tell me if i’m actually depressed or not. thanks.

Good Luck

Q: depression/suicide online quiz, tell if you need professional help?
Is there a free online quiz that assesses depression/suicidal thoughts that can tell you if you need professional help or not?

A: If you feel you have such a problem talk to your doctor,or an adult you trust such as a counselor, teacher, pastor or older brother or sister. But talk to someone.Depression is more than just being depressed,it makes you physically ill, also near crippling joint pain, stomach problems, etc. This can all be corrected with medication, don’t be ashamed millions of us are on”the pill”and proud of it,I have a wonderful family,a fantastic job,I travel, all the things I couldn’t do or have before I owe to my doctor,he is my best friend now,and I will be forever grateful. But you have to make that 1st.step,do it now.
GOOD LUCK!

Q: How do I tell my Mom about ym depression?
Please don’t flame me for my spelling.
I have tooken a depression online test and have 9 out of them 10 sytoms…

I had tryed to make a conversation with her about it…

It came out as one with the word suicide in it, and I asked her, but she gave me that “I’m going to hurt you” look on her face, then I quickly made an exuse to “get out of school that day” and she calmed…

Depression runs very high in our family…

She’s very stirct and she’ll tell me “she’s to busy” all the tme…I am cyberschooled and she’s a stay at home Mom. I don’t have any friends and contact with family members is very minimal, and any family member would say that I’m talking crazy if I asked help from them.
I have to ask to use the phone, and she never leaves me alone, so I couldn’t call anyone…

Please, could you tell me how I can tell her?

For me, this is like a 12 year old telling there parents that she got pregnant…I don’t want to give out my age, but I just started PMS about 5 months ago…

A: About three years ago I was depressed. I didn’t want anyone to know because I thought that I would look crazy or suicidal (which I wasn’t) but I didn’t want pity or for my parents to know. I went to my doctor and told him that I thought I might be depressed. After talking to me and doing test he gave me medication to see if it helped, which it did. You really do need to let you mom or someone know, if not it could get worse. It actually could be a chemical imbalance which does need medicated, or it could just be your feelings. I never told nobody, and I believe that was a big mistake, because you really need some one to talk to and help you out, and not just a doctor or therapist. Get taken care of. If you have to just blurt it out, cry if you need to, just make sure she hears you and understands that you are serious. If she don’t help or can’t find time, I would try my best to let someone know. This is really serious, and you need to be listen to. Hopefully, you don’t have any chemical imbalancements- that’s more serious. It could very much be the fact that you aren’t around anybody or talk to anybody, you could just feel alone. Just say, “Mom, I really need to talk to you, please.” If she doesn’t have time, tell her to “make time, this is important!!!” I really do hope that you guys talk and figure things out. I really believe that if you let her know that you’re absolutely serious, she’ll listen. Just go for it, don’t chicken out and don’t change the subject. Hey, you said that you have pms, that means you’re a woman, and that alone gives you the right to speak up and speak your mind, babe.(hee hee)! I really wish you good luck with this. I believe if you got the courage to reach out this way to strangers, you definately have it in you to tell you mom. Good luck!

Q: Depression Help?
I’m 13 years old and have lots of problems at home ever since I was about 4 to 5 years old. I took up self harming at the age of eleven and managed to stop. But now I’ve started again, things have been really hard lately and I’ve been doing some researching on the internet and I seem to have all the symptons of moderate to severe depression.
I’ve done online depression quizzes and they all said I was suffering from moderate to severe depression, I realised I might be depressed about 5 or 6 weeks ago now and on the internet it says that childhood and teenage depression is like mood swings and only lasts from 3 days to a couple of weeks.
have lost intrest that things that were once enjoyable, feel down and sad all the time. Still feel down even when good things happen to me. I am always exhausted and can never sleep, I feel as if I am a failure and that I have no futue whatsoever, I am always angry, I find it difficult to think clearly and to make decisions. But I’m not sure
Oh and to the person who asked me if i’ve ever heard of puberty I have, did you consider running away, self harming and sucide when you were 10? cause i did

A: People with depressive illnesses do not all experience the same symptoms. The severity, frequency and duration of symptoms will vary depending on the individual and his or her particular illness.

Symptoms include:

-Persistent sad, anxious or “empty” feelings
-Feelings of hopelessness and/or pessimism
-Feelings of guilt, worthlessness and/or helplessness
Irritability, restlessness
-Loss of interest in activities or hobbies once pleasurable, including sex
-Fatigue and decreased energy
-Difficulty concentrating, remembering details and making decisions
-Insomnia, early–morning wakefulness, or excessive sleeping
-Overeating, or appetite loss
-Thoughts of suicide, suicide attempts
-Persistent aches or pains, headaches, cramps or digestive problems that do not ease even with treatment

In my experience, the absolute best thing for depression (and anxiety) is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. It sounds rather simplistic, but the main point is that thoughts create feelings. If you change your thoughts, you can change your feelings/moods. This is actually quite hard work, and finding a skilled therapist to work with you would be a great start!
http://www.nacbt.org/whatiscbt.htm

http://nacbt.org/searchfortherapists.asp

Some good books that will get you on the right track are:
-Mind Over Mood by Padesky and Greenberger
-Undoing Depression

Also worth mentioning, although online self screening quizzez can be very helpful to point us in the right direction, they are not a substitute for an actual diagnosis by a trained doctor. It does seem that you are experiencing depression of some sort, and as such you should go to a doctor (preferably a therapist) and get an accurate diagnosis. There are a LOT of sub-types of depression and associated diagnoses out there!

Q: I took tests for depression online?
And they all came out that i had severe depression. Trust me…i took A LOT of tests. I wanted to be sure.
I’m only 15 and idk what to do. I do honestly think i am depressed. But do i like tell my mom or…how do i get the help i need?
I need help. Trust me. I need help.
I cut. Have been for a year.
My dad is an alcoholic you a$$hole. I’d cuss for real but gay Yahoo won’t let me.
And I HATE emo music so there you go.
Also, it’s a MENTAL disease. When you have depression, something is wrong in your brain.
Get your facts right before you print the story gaywad.

A: Firstly, let your mum know that how you’ve been feeling lately. Surely there were reasons you decided to take the quizzes? Your mood… a lack of motvation, a feeling of sadness, whatever. Let her know that you’d like to speak to a doctor. Make an appointment with your GP, either the regular family one, or a new one, whatever you’re comfortable with.

If you would prefer to go in to the appointment alone, that may be for the best. I know that my parents are very supportive of me, but I don’t feel comfortable talking in front of them about how I feel, and I only ever use loose terms like ‘I feel… off/strange’ when I talk to them about it.

Tell your doctor everything you can think of. Maybe write a list of things you’d like to talk to him/her about? Your GP should be able to refer you to a suitable psychologist/therapist/counseller. And also be able to tell you about any goverment rebate schemes you’d be eligible for to make the sessions less costly. (My psychotherapist is expensive, but I’m on one of those schemes, and it takes some of the stress away.)

If you see a psychologist or other professional who you are not entirely comfortable with, make sure you try someone else. It took me three goes =). The first two I saw I really didn’t like, and weren’t very good at trying to understand me. The third is brilliant.

You may be prescribed medication, which you don’t have to take if you don’t want to. It might help. I’ve been on several different types over the last year and a half, and not had any success, but I know a lot of other people who’ve had more luck than me.

Wish you all the best! =)

Q: Where can i talk to someone about depression online thanks?
basicaly i feel like i’m going insane and i’m in a dreamworld detached from reality. i don’t talk to any one anymore and never leave the house.
i’m 30 and have struggled with depression anxiey my whole life…but now it feels different…i feel hopeless. i pushed all my old friends away.
i feel ashamed of myself. i’m not working. i get freaked out if i have to walk to the store. it’s pathetic. the only thing that keeps my from killing myself is stuying music/playing guitar-that and i wouldn’t do it to my family-plus my obituary would look “uneventful”

thanks for any help!

i feel a little better after writing this.

A: I went through same thing and have passed it now. I would love to help you. Just email me on foleypaige@yahoo.co.uk. If you want like, no pressure : )

Q: What are some herbs for anxiety or depression online?
I don’t have insurance for a doctor visit to get the proper meds I need, so I’m trying the next best thing. What are some herbs I can buy ONLINE without a doctors prescription or anything to try to help. I don’t want something just for drugs like some, but I’m looking for something to help me with me. I’m just like how i used to be before i did get meds. I used to take effexor xr but then after college it didn’t work anymore and my doctor thought about something like zolaft but its been so long that i’d have to go see a doctor and do not have the money for it and the free clinic over here will not prescribe anything for me so its a waist of time. Please help! thanks!

A: Vervain, St Johns Wort , Vitamin B complex…. , Vitamin D you can take up to 5000 UI – all specifically connected with Depression and Social Anxiety as well as other psychological disorders…

Taking Pure Vitamin C in the form of Ascorbic Acid is good, so is Vitamin E , a High dose Vitamin D is good for increasing your immune system and also sunlight it a source of Vitamin D absorption and lack of Vitamin D is thought to be one cause of Seasonal Depression

Ginko Biloba and Ginseng are good for other things…, such as energy and stuff…

Q: What do you know about psychotic depression?
okay. so. I was “diagnosed” with bipolar disorder, and given many medications that only increased my problems. I was bored one day, and was looking up the different types of depressions online, and came across psychotic depression, something I have never heard of before, but it made me stop in my tracks. I tried to explain it to my mother, and told her about it, but she only said “Stop self-diagnosing yourself”. The thing is, I DON’T self diagnose, and never have before, this thing really was me, but for some reason, she won’t accept it. She accepted it when I was depressed, and even diagnosed with bipolar depression, but she can’t seem to wrap her brain around the concept of this. I know i need help, but, obviously, i’m on her insurance, and can’t really do much on my own, I need her help. What can i do to …. convince her, i guess, that i do need extended help and treatment to get over this?
 puh-puh-puh-puhleaaassee answerrrrr

A: Bipolar disorder refers to a condition with both mania (extremely elevated moods) and depression (extremely low moods) – I’ll assume that you know what this is since you have already received a diagnosis. Sometimes, people with bipolar can ALSO have symptoms of psychosis. For instance, they might hear voices, have grandiose ideas or delusions (e.g. “i can fly” or “I’m the girlfriend of [a celebrity]“).

Depression, on the other hand, refers to extremely low moods WITHOUT mania. The person is sad, has problems eating and sleeping, feels worthless and can be suicidal. For some people, they ALSO have symptoms of psychosis – they might hear voices, think that the government is chasing them, that kind of thing. Technically speaking, these symptoms of psychosis occur when the person is ALSO depressed. E.g., if a person is going through a period of remission from their depression, then the psychotic symptoms also disappear. However, when the person becomes depressed again (e.g. has another episode), then the psychotic symptoms might come back.

Talk to the doctor that is treating you for bipolar. Tell him or her why you think you might have psychotic depression. Ask to be referred to a psychologist for testing. This is a very complicated issue, but it is important because you need to be on medication that will help with this. Good luck!

She has been brushed off many times and really needs to find full treatment (counseling & medication) so she can get back on track and find a steady job. Any help/leads to service providers are GREATLY appreciated!!!

If anyone knows the answers, or has the book, could you please help out?

Just curious

A: 1) Identify your problem.

Thats all I remember… >.<

Q: Free depression help in nyc?
Does anyone know where I can free help for depression in NYC, weather it may be a study, or an organization.

A: It would be a good idea to go to your local Social Security Office to see if you qualify for any State or Federal funding. Go to a local Mental Health Center. These places usually have a sliding scale based on what you can or cannot afford. I hope you get the help you want. Take Care.

Q: How do I get help for my Depression for Free?
I’ve had depression symptoms since last September, so a year now. I want to get help. The problem is I have no insurance, and can’t afford a doctor’s visit of 100+ bucks. I have used St. John’s Wort and sometimes it seems to help me, but most of the time it does not.

Does anyone know of any other remedies that do not require a doctors visit. Better yet, does any one know any one know of any agency or place I can go to for free to help me???

A: lots of church’s have counselors they can send you to. also exercise a lot which releases endorphins in the mean time that will cheer you up and help with feelings of sadness. I would really consider reaching out to a church in your area though, they have licensed therapists that they will refer you to

Q: How can I get help with my Depression for Free?
I’ve had depression symptoms since last September, so a year now. I want to get help.
A: No. The depression business is a multi Billion dollar a year business. Full of Doctors, Shrinks, and Drug Co’s that love your money. Not you. They only care about themselves and their wallets. Good Luck! Hope you can get help.

Q: Why would a college offer “confidential” free depression screening…?
in a very public spot where everyone could see and hear who’s talking to who about what? I know it’s nice they’re offering the screening to the student body at all, but they get to meet with a professional for it, and it’s supposed to be confidential, but it’s in this big open atrium where students walk through to go to eat, to go to many important offices, etc. How many people–first years it’s targeted for particularly–are really going to stop there? The ones who really want the attention, yeah, but hey. Whatever. They’ll only be filling out a questionnaire anyways, most likely, probably not much actual help reminding them of what they already know….
I just think it would work, draw in more people, if they knew about the screening but could go to a different room for it where no one will no they went to it.
I’m forgetting how to spell…. I meant “where no one will KNOW they went to it.”

A: At my school last year, there were 3 suicides. I think it’s sort of mandatory to offer help to students & let them know that help is available. That’s all they’re doing. It may not even be related to the college, but a department doing an independent survey.

Q: Are there any places to chat via email/IM with anyone about depression for free?
Just to be clear, I am not suicidal or going to do any Self Injurious behaviour etc. I have a long history with depression and can’t afford therapy. I was wondering if any doctors do pro-bono online therapy or if there is a place I can go to chat with someone via IM or email. Group chatting or therapy does not work for me. I could really use some help here if anyone can, please. Thank you.

A: there are many clinics in all the states that offer counseling for free or reduced rates. Individual not group. If you want more specifics read my profile and email if I can help God Bless Reggie

Q: I am 26 yrs, male,Type 1 Diabetic, Is normal life(energetic & free form depression) possible for me?
I am an Indian, living in dubai these days.Ever since I was diagnosed with Diabeties, life is not at all easy, Inspite of taking so much care, my sugar levels are always high, resulting so many complications of which lack of energy is the main one.Whole Body Pains all the time, Early in the morning I dont like doing anything? I am on Huminsulin 30/70 (30 units-morn & 28 units – eve). What did i do wrong in life? Can I lead a normal life? Please help me?

A: Yes, it is entirely possible for you to have a normal life, and no, you didn’t do anything wrong. It’s very difficult for most diabetics just after being diagnosed and at times after that when sugars are high (high sugars themselves can make you feel miserable) – you might feel that things will never get better, you are alone, etc. In short, they WILL get better (provided you take the action steps), you are NOT alone, and there’s no reason to be miserable about diabetes once you know more about it and get your blood sugars down.

From being on insulin when I was pregnant (normally my blood sugars are controlled by exercise and diet), I can tell you that your diet and exercise will affect what levels of insulin you need, and that there are lots more insulins out there that you could try, with your doctor’s approval. Without getting really technical, there are short-acting insulins which bring your blood sugar down quicker, long-acting insulins which bring down your blood sugar over time, intermediate-acting, and combinations of all of these. When I was on insulin, I had much higher units than what you’re telling us. And I also had to switch insulins a couple of times to get the right combination.

If you educate yourself about your diabetes and the best diet and exercise plan for YOU with diabetes, and get your blood sugar levels within normal ranges, other than dealing with testing your sugars and taking insulin, life can be pretty amazing for you, just as if you didn’t have diabetes other than taking better care of your body.

Please go see your doctor, let him/her know what you have been eating (for the last couple of weeks is best), what your blood sugars have been for that time, and of course your type and levels of insulin although the doc should be aware of that. If your doc doesn’t help you adjust your diet, exercise and possibly adjust, replace with a different kind of or add another insulin, or refer you to someone more specialized to help, time for a new doc.

Good luck! (:

Q: Are there any free resources for depression counseling in SE WI?
I was just curious if anyone knew of free or at least very low cost depression counselors or resources in South East Wisconsin? A lack of health insurance and the inability to qualify for state assistance towards health insurance creates a large obstacle in terms of getting professional help. I am not looking for a doctor to prescribe something, but someone with training or a license to listen and give an opinion or analyze and help make sense of emotions.

A: I would say try a church

Q: Blindside – The Great Depression free mp3 download?
I need it for a school project. I can’t find it anywhere, I think its because it’s just like the opening to there cd, or something like that. Please help?

A: u can go here

http://www.bestonlinetools.org/5o-best-websites-to-download-free-mp3-songs/

Q: Is there a place to get free counselling for depression?
I think I’m suffering from depression. I don’t want to pay for it, because I’ve gotten ‘help’ before and it wasn’t any good. I don’t want to pay for something that won’t work. I’ve even tried different meds from my doctor to deal with anxiety and depression and they didn’t seem to help, either. Any advice appreciated.

A: Its really hard to say not knowing where you live …. i would look up on the internet for your area and see if there is anything offered. Just a suggestion too… for 12 years i was told i had depression and anxiety, come to find out after i freaked and drove my car to portland lost it and me and dont remember it, i was told i have bipolar , you may want to have that checked, but a regular doctor cant tell you this…. I hope you find help i know how frustrating it is.

Q: how can i make a free website supporting depression?
i want to make a supporting website to help people suffering from depression….how do i do this?

A: Hi, thats very good that you want to do something to help people as so many people are suffering from depression.
The best place i found to make a website is
http://www.webstarts.com/?aff=ghearts
it is totally free and you can build your own website, whenever you want you can edit it.
By using This website you can
1.add your domain name
2 submit you site to the search engines like Google, yahoo etc,.
3 have different text effects to edit your web pages
and much more
I hope this is helpful for you, Good luck

http://www.webstarts.com/?aff=ghearts

Q: Is there free support for depression anywhere in London?
I’m at my wits end. Medication is doing nothing for me, GPs are useless and don’t understand, and I can’t afford private counseling. Is there anything in London that help. ANYTHING? Maybe a support group where people go and have group discussions or something. ANYTHING. I need to get out the house. I am imprisoned here and I don’t know what to do.

A: try googling for it

“london depression group” or “london depression support” or similar

i did a quick try and got this

Q: How to know when I need depression meds?
I know I am depressed.

How do I know when I need the meds?
I’m only 14

& how can i convince my parents to get me help?
the meds would be expensive.. and any other doctor help.. i might not be able to afford.

A: Here, I found you some helpful websites of how to know:

http://psychology.suite101.com/article.cfm/signs_of_depression

http://www.ehow.com/how_4452443_depressed.html

Depression is a very serious matter. If your parents don’t take you seriously, just explain to them how it’s effecting your life in nagative way and hope they understand, and if they still don’t listen, then maybe don’t talk to them for few days to show that you’re really serious about getting help. I don’t have good ideas but I hope they’ll understand if they care. And one more thing: Zoloft is best medication for depression.

Q: Do I need depression pills or just a hug?
ok well i think im depressed- Everything really is just not going right, my exgirlfriend is with a new guy, my grandpa is sick, i’m losing many friends etc. etc. I just really dont want to do anyhting anymore mostly because I lost my girlfriend forever. Its been a while since I have been truly happy. Should I see a doctor or is this just high school blues that I will get over? Would pills usually help someone like me?

A: Check out a depression web site see how many of the symptoms you have. If you say yes to most of them go see a psychologist,
try your best to be strong,It’s life a lot of ppl end up getting hurt or losing a love one, but life does go on,you just have to give your self time. look at this a if it is making you stronger, learn from your mistakes, and love your self.turn every negative thought in to a positive on,there is light at the end of the tunnel.
Try your best to make your self strong and feel normal again, but if you just can’t than that’s how you know if you need pills. pills that the psychologist will give you are very safe(ssri pills) like Zoloft. there are lots of different ones. if u decide to go to a doctor don’t be scared to tell them everything on your mind because the Doctor is there for you to help you and fix you.
what ever you do don’t give up. this is a big world there is so much out there to experience and you are young If you keep strong and a positive mind you will end up being successful.
Just believe in your self always. I hope your Grandpa gets well, I’m sure since you are losing friends right now that your grandpa will be the best friend you will ever have. I’m sure he will enjoy your company.
take care!

Q: I need depression medicine but my mom won’t buy it for me?
It’s not that we don’t have enough money, she just had bad experiences with it before and she doesn’t want me to go through the same thing. I got out of a serious relationship 2 months ago, i’m suicidal and suffering. Nothing is helping me and I think just trying the pills might help me. What can I say to her to at least get her to let me try them?

A: Of all things and possible internal turmoil and suffering, you decide you need pills to help you through relationship trouble – from someone who’s taken them for years for abstract depression that no relationship or luxury can lift, I think you should reconsider your suitability for life – there’s going to be plenty of heartbreak.

And I had a bad experience with them too, they left me with a painful life-long, physical illness on top of everything else…if you don’t really NEED them, which I don’t think you do – go with your mum on this one.

And if your mum still has to buy them for you, that means your quite young and don’t have a job, so if you’re weeping over a lost boyfriend/girlfriend that’s even sadder – it’ll pass, and it will happen again, you’ve got hormones raging and it’s not demeaning to say that, no girl wants to hear her feelings are all down to hormones, sure they’re not, but it makes things look a lot worse than they are – you don’t need drugs for it.

If you actually suffered from depression and had suffered from it before, during and after the relationship -

It would be a different story.

But if you find yourself about to do anything crazy, for real, then call 911 – they’ll give you all the drugs you want.

Q: angle of depression, need help and how to solve it with work and diagram?
a ship on the ocean surface detects a sunken ship on the ocean floor at angle of depression of 50 degrees. the distance between the ship on the surface and the sunken ship on the ocean floor is 200 meters. if the ocrean floor is level in this area, how far above the ocean floor, to the nearest meter, is the ship on the surface?

A: Start by drawing two horizontal parallel lines, one above the other.

Put a point on the top parallel line and label it S where the ship is.
Draw a line from S so it makes an angle of 50 degrees from the top horizontal line – this line will point down to the treasure.

Label T where that 50 degree angle line hits the bottom horizontal line.

Draw a vertical line up from T to the surface of the water. Where it meets the top horizontal line, label the point O.

You now have a right triangle POT. You know PO is 200 meters (if you can make any sense out of what the problem statement is saying). You know the angle is 50 degrees.

Using trigonometry, you can now find the distance from O to T. (I suggest using the tangent function: OT/OP = tan 50 degrees.)

Q: How can i deal with a depression, need help please?
i have been feeling very depressed . i had some family problems and now i feel very sad. I need help, is there anything i can do to overcome this?

thank you.

A: You need to get a good support group. Have a couple of friends that you trust over and tell them how you feel. Getting things out of your chest really helps. Start exercising daily, this can reduce depression. Also breathing exercises help (pranayama). Try to clear your mind and meditate for a few minutes daily, this will also help. Try these techniques, they will work. I hope you feel better!

Q: depression?
im depressed lost my job my life sucks. i have no money no insurance and need depression pills. are there any clinics that would help me in my situation? Im just crazy i guess…. but i cant function normally without anti-depressants or i will turn to hard drugs. so please dont say “workout or “go to chuch” ….because its a chemical imbalance!!!!! those things dont work for me!!! what do i do

A: Go see a therapist and get their advice. Depression is a normal thing and don’t let it take over your life. It’s a great thing and something you should experience to the fullest.

Q: I was just diagnosed with severe depression, need advice?
I knew I was suffering from depression before I saw the Psych., and he prescibed Wellbutrin. Anyone have any feedback on taking Wellbutrin? What were your side effects and did it help?

A: My GF takes wellbutrin. And has also been diagnosed with something similar. She has begun practicing meditation and it has helped her a great deal and have even been able to come off some of the prescription meds she was taking.

Q: How can I get the help I need for depression?
I’m afraid to go my parents or friends for help with my depression what should I do

A: maybe you could talk with your school counselor 1st~they have a test they can give you to see how you pan out on it & then if you do actually need the help they can help set up everything if your parents ok if you are under 18♦

Q: I NEED A DEPRESSION ANAYLSIS OF HOLDEN CAULFIELD FROM THE CATHCHER IN THE RYE?
so yea i need an in depth analysis or good sources of why he suffers from clinical depression. any help will be greatly appreciated. thank you in advance

A: Seriously you should try and read the book if you didn’t. However, a few things that come to mind are:
The death of his brother would be a major catalyst. His brother died at a young age (11), he seemed have been close to Allie, and it was a traumatic death (leukemia while they were away for the summer in Maine, a happy time turned tragic for him), at least for a 13 year old.
His parents seem to be fairly disinterested in him (he describes them as “occupied” before he was born), they don’t let him grieve for his brother properly, they just shuffle him from school to school without realizing that he may have a real problem. Even as he’s telling the story, he is in a hospital in California. They sent him across the country, which seems like another way to keep him distant. They seem to regard him as a screw up.
He obviously has some issues with his self esteem, he refers to himself as the only dumb one in the family. He is quick to put down Stradlater for being handsome. He is an underachiever.
He talks about suicide a few times.
He thinks that it would be a good life to live in the woods and not have to deal with other people.
He is obsessed with a Jane, a gal that never really showed affection for him in return. It is a good way for him to avoid intimacy.

Hope some of this helps!

Q: I need depression help severely, no options….what do I do?
I’m 17, and I know I need help, but my parents won’t help me at all, and I’m out of options, forced to take matters into my own hands, but I have no money or insurance, and I can’t pay for anything, no doctor’s fee, no meds, nothing. I live in Amarillo, TX, and there is no free clinic. I really need help, I’m on the last little edge, and I am getting closer to being strong enough to pull the trigger. I really need some help….I hope somebody can tell me something….

A: “There is nothing worth dying for that’s not better served by living” – LL

If I was you I’d score some good weed and smoke that. Yes it has a lot of bad press and lies made up about it, but it is a natural remedy and helps you mellow out. It is not addictive and not harmful to you. Pharm drugs are much worse.
If your worried about cancer (which is genetic) then use a vaporizor (no smoke).

Watch a movie called “Grass” too.

Q: Desperately need depression help…?
I’m 13. My family has said that they will get me help, but they never do. I cannot function, I can’t do anything. I need help badly. Are there any free depression help/ therapy chats on the Internet… Or self help quizzes? I want to try self help because of my lack of resource, but I don’t even know what form of depression I have… Any quizzes to determine that? Please help… Any support or information would be extremely helpful and appreciated. Bless you

A: due to your age ~speak with a school counselor & they will help you get some help♦

Q: I need depression help, but don’t know how to tell my parents…?
I have talked to my best friend about it and she says that agrees that I need to tell my mom but the problem is, I don’t know how to tell her because I don’t think she’d believe me because I’m only 14. But my parents just went through a divorce over the summer and they are back together and it hasn’t being doing good again. I researched the depression symptoms and I have mostly all of them. It hasn’t gotten to the point where I have actually thought about killing myself or any of those things, but I’m always tired, sore, have weird head aches even though I take migraine medicine. I have cried myself to sleep at night too many times for anyone and it obviously isn’t healthy, but I feel guilty about everything even if I had nothing to do with the problem. Also, I’ve been REALLY irratable lately and I’m a completely clutz and people always joke around about how I’m clumzy and how I shouldn’t play sports, but lately it’s really hurt even though I know they’re joking. My dad also surfers from severe depression and is also bipolar and my uncle is also so I want to get help before it gets too bad. Like I said I’m just afraid to tell someone besides my friend because I don’t want to feel like I’m crazy because I go for therapy for my depression. Like I know there are depression pills out there but they are usually for older people.

A: Talk to a teacher or a guidance counselor. They are trained to recognize these things and should be able to help you explain this to your parents, and find you the help that you need.

Q: Hi, I need depression help?
Hi, I’m 14 years old and I have an eating disorder and depression or some mix of it I’m not sure cause I’m not a doctor but my dad is..and he gives me zoloft which I’m not taking on purpose because it makes me feel numb or maybe that’s just psychological..but now this eating disorder is taking over me I’m so depressed and lonely no one is home because I refused to go to(6 hour drive) arrarat cause I binged the other night (but I said i had homework that needed the internet) and I felt really sick and then today I wasn’t going to eat…but then I ate and I’m so depressed and alone….
I really need to talk to someone but I my mum keeps saying I should go to this centre for eating disorders but they are just going to make me eat and be fat and “happy” and I really want to fit into my clothes i hate having tight clothes..
I really hate myself so much..I’m so spoilt and I just can’t stand myself but i can’t get over this stupid problem in my head I just can’t..
the only reason I binged the other night was cause mum was just yelling at everything I said and I ate my feelings..
I really hate but I really love my mum too she seems to love me but she was so awful to me when I was younger I’m so confused and hurting inside I really need help…
Does anyone know of a depression help forum or something where I can talk to other people about these things?
I’m so depressed I keep crying all the time I really hate myself so much…I really need to talk to someone about this..
When I was younger I was also suicidal.

A: um…you could talk to me. i’m good at talking to people and comforting them. and i actually am depressed as well

and nobody can actually make you eat. you just have to want to be healthy. you should read Wintergirls by Laurie Halse Anderson. I think it would help you a bit. And it’s a good book as well, so that’s a plus

Q: Do i need depression or anxiety medication? Please help.?
Lately i feel terrible. i’ve been trying to research online what exactly my problem is. i cant tell if i have depression or anxiety-it seems like both. i am 20 weeks pregnant so i know my emotions are going to be out of whack, but this is getting out of hand. i know SOME medications for anxiety/depression are safe during pregnancy, so please don’t respond saying i shouldn’t take anything.

my symptoms are:
-tired all the time, i sleep for insanely long hours
-i have no desire to get up and face the day and don’t look forward to tomorrow
-i cry so easily
-i feel like my life totally sucks and that i’m worthless
-sometimes when im having a crying fit, i cant stop and it gets to the point where i cant breathe
-i just want to give up and run away from everything.suicidal thoughts have crossed my mind, but not often and only briefly

i don’t have a horrible life, but things in my life arent as good as they should be. i dont feel at all emotionally equipped to handle them….

i am miserable. i need something, but i need to know what i have before i talk to the doctor.

can anyone help?
thank you.

A: I think we may be twins here!!! I’m almost 20 weeks along as well and I’m on depression medication and have been for almost 10 years. I’m on something called Celexa (Citalopram is the generic) and it’s safe for use in pregnancy. Medicine seriously has saved my life. I don’t know what it would be like if I didn’t have it! Some people, like myself, will probably need to be on them for the rest of our lives, but you may just need some during your pregnancy as pregnancy makes our hormones all whacked out!!! :O) Also, if you are feeling this way now, it may help to be on something after the baby is born because postpartum depression is a very real, very lonely and very scary thing! I’ve had ALL of the symptoms you’ve stated!!! If someone has suicidal thoughts… you need to get help, even if they are fleeting thoughts! I TOTALLY get that life isn’t horrible, but even so, YOU feel horrible and hopeless… am I right? I’m blessed with a WONDERFUL husband and three great kids and one on the way. Yeah… life is hard, with financial difficulties and health problems, but all in all, my life is pretty good so as a person looking in from the outside, they don’t understand the emotions that you are feeling. I would DEFINITELY see your doctor and tell him/her your symptoms. It can and will get better! You are your own best advocate, especially when it comes to your health!!!! Good luck! :O)

Stacy

Q: i think i need depression help?
for years i have been saying “oh i don’t need therapy i’ll be fine”

and in those years my depression has gotten progressively worse.

i have gotten to the point of being suicidal where i think i might actually do it one day.

and i definitely, definitely do not wanna do that, ever.

but we have no depression specialists (a.k.a. therapists, psychologists, psychiatrist etc.) around here.

so i was wondering if maybe a doctor can help me? if i go to my regular doctor can she at least point me in the right direction? or maybe prescribe something?

i’m only 16 years old, so this whole suicide thing is really bugging me

A: ive been there, its terrible i know. the best thing you can do (with no doctor) is find a friend or family member or someone close that you trust and can talk to, someone who can support you.

Q: What are some good foods for Mild Depression?
Recently I was told by my psychologist that I have mild- moderate depression. It’s not serious enough for medication, which I’m very glad about! She told me I should start eating better and exercising more, which I have been. I was just wondering what type of foods are good to combat depression- I’ve been taking fish oil tablets because I know Omega 3 is important. Are there any other foods which would help?

A: FOODS:
Investigators at McLean Hospital in Belmont, Mass., found evidence that cold-water fish, walnuts, and sugar beets may be beneficial foods for depression. http://www.everydayhealth.com/depression… Note: I much prefer to rely on the independent German double blind studies, which show that St. John’s wort is as effective as antidepressants for major depression. See http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/10759336?dopt=Abstract

Take 4 Omega 3 fish oil supplements, daily; (certified free of mercury) it is best if consumed with an antioxidant, such as an orange, or its FRESHLY SQUEEZED juice. If vitamin E is added, it should be certified as being 100% from natural sources, or it may be synthetic: avoid it. Females may benefit by balancing the DHA, & EPA versions of Omega 3 in krill oil with ALA flaxseed oil Omega 3, or at least one heaped tablespoonful of ground flaxseed, daily. Vegetarians: Google: “Omega 3; algae; supplies”

Check out http://your-mental-health.weebly.com/b.h… and page 3, which provide a program to combat depression naturally. Eat a breakfast containing a reasonable amount of protein, every day, within an hour of arising. www.radiantrecovery.com refers. Most people in modern society today eat a poor diet, with far too much processed foods, contributing to lack of energy, depression, and anxiety. Eat more in accordance with your “nutritional type”:- ( 20 question quiz http://www.naturalhealthcoach.com/tools ) or there is a book via the searchbar at www.mercola.com Also enter “vitamin B12″. View: Are You a Tired Female? New Test Shows Iron Deficiency Better – Articles http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articl… See http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articl…

Minimise/eliminate consumption of highly processed foods, particularly grain products, such as white bread, donuts, cake, cookies/biscuits, or anything with sugar. Opt for more wholefoods, non-starchy vegetables (especially broccoli, and spinach, with lemon, or vinegar), and fruit.

Many people in Western countries are lacking in minerals, such as zinc, magnesium, and calcium, & vitamin D3, (U.S.A. only: INSIST ON the following, or be misled! “The correct test is 25(OH)D, also called 25-hydroxyvitamin D” – “I strongly recommend using LabCorp for these reasons until Quest can guarantee accurate, usable results.” From Mercola.com – Enter: TEST VALUES FOR VITAMIN D DEFICIENCY in their searchbar ) so it is a good idea to have those levels checked as well. See http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2008/12/16/my-one-hour-vitamin-d-lecture-to-clear-up-all-your-confusion-on-this-vital-nutrient.aspx

Q: Are there certain foods that worsen depression? And are the certain foods that help with it?
I have depressive tendencies, and instead of going the perscription drug route, I’d really rather look at natural forms of dealing with depression. What kind of changes in diet may worsen or better a bout of depression? Any other natural solutions? Thanks!

A: Sweets and fattening foods are said to be bad for depression. Try taking Vitamin B Complex 2 or 3 times a day and also magnesium and potassium. Also I have heard that St. John’s wart is good. The best thing though, to me, is carrots, celery and apples juiced in a blender. Try 2 pints a day for a few days and then go up to maybe 3 pints and try for a few days. This helps chronic fatigue, fibromyalia, and many other things.

Q: Are there any foods that help relieve depression symptoms?
Are there any foods that help relieve depression symptoms?

Thank you for any help.

A: Eating fresh fruits and veggies are good for depression.
Exercise is good, even if it just a walk.
Get sun and stop caffein intake for it has a negative effect on depression.
Work on journaling your thoughts, this helps slow down your anxiety which causes doom and gloom thinking or depression.
Find themes in your writing so that you can stop the cycle of negative self talk that becomes circular.
I hope this helps,
see someone if you need to, no shame in that.
GOOD LUCK,
Your Assistant

Q: What are some natural supplements and foods to help with depression?
We are what we eat. And I think pharmaceutical fixes are not always the answer. Can anyone suggest natural remedies for combating depression and anxiety?

A: Eliminate potential food allergens – If you suspect that there is a link between food sensitivity and your state of mind, try eliminating the allergen foods from your diet to see if this brings relief. The usual suspects are dairy products, wheat (gluten), corn, preservatives, and food additives. Your doctor may also suggest tests for food sensitivities.

Eat antioxidant rich foods, including fruits (such as blueberries, cherries, oranges and tomatoes), and vegetables (such as squash and bell peppers).

Vitamin B6 is believed to work in the brain similar to valium-like drugs – hence its importance in your diet as food or as supplement. Mainly, women taking oral contraceptives or with premenstrual tension or going through menopause require good amount of B6.

Many herbal and homeopathic remedies have been shown to significantly reduce the symptoms of depression without the unwanted side-effects.

The most commonly used as natural remedies for depression are Hypericum Perforatum (St. John’s Wort) which has been called “nature’s Prozac” and Passiflora which is one of nature’s best natural tranquilizers.

Many people around the world have now turned to this more natural approach of regaining the subtle balance of brain chemicals and rejuvenating the body and mind for all round natural health. Natural remedies for depression that include homeopathic remedies can also be of great benefit and are free of side effects as well.

You may get more info here http://www.healthherbsandnutrition.com/remedies/d/depression.htm

Q: How to cure depression without a doctor and medication?
I’m just depressed because of my appearance, school, and family… which does sound stupid, when people out there have way worse problems.

I just really want to know how to cure depression. I don’t want to see a doctor, or talk to anyone. I just want to know like what foods help depression (without making you fat) ? Do fish oil vitamins help? I heard exercise also helps.

Please tell me anything to help cure depression. It’s really affecting the people around me.
Thankyou

A: Exercise is good. Eating healthy also can help, try to keep your blood sugar even. Avoid junk and processed foods.
And here’s what I think is the best cure for depression, but most people won’t try it when I suggest it: do something nice for someone else. Whether it be your family, a friend, or volunteer work, there is nothing that will raise your spirits more than doing something for someone else. It can be as simple as making dinner for your family, or giving a hug to someone when they really need it. Or it could be going to an old folk’s home and reading a book to someone who never has any visitors. You’ll make someone’s day, and they’ll think you’re the best thing since sliced bread. And you’ll think you’re pretty great, too. There’s nothing like doing something nice for someone else, to help you forget your troubles.

Q: Foods anti-DEPRESSION?
A friend of mine has DEPRESSION and I want to help him.
Besides the anti-depressive drugs prescribed by a psychiatrist, do you know some foods that can aliviate the symptoms of this horrible disease?
I have heard that “chocolat” has some substances that can help.
Please?

A: Chocolate can help some. You can also try gatorade/powerade for the crash out times. A generally healthy diet and especially exercise in the sunlight helps.

Q: do spells or specific foods or aroma oils ward off depression?
i socialise, listen to music, pray, play but still lately depression isnt leaving me. i cant learn anything and sometimes i cry uselessly and i cant help it. i really need help. i dont want to take any medicins.
suggest any home remedies for depression. i heard some foods and aromas make us fresh and reduce depression, can any1 suggest please?
dont make fun of me, if u need easy scores just leave a “hi”.
Thanks alot

A: You could try some of the citrus oils. Also I’d read that turkey, red wine, and dark chocolate are supposed to help with Seasonal Affective Disorder which is a form of depression. Might want to check with your doctor.

Q: Can someone give me a list of foods that help with depression and contain serotonin?
I know bananas and chicken do. What else?

A: I’m not sure what foods contain serotonin (or if foods even do contain serotonin..) but there’s a great pill out there called 5HTP. It’s a serotonin replacement therapy and works really well. You can get it at any drug store and it’s a bit pricey but totally worth it. You take it at night time (because it can make you quite sleepy) and in the morning time I always notice a BIG difference in my mood. I’m much more happy, easy going, etc.
I’ve also heard of something called St. John’s Wort or something like that which is supposed to be a mood enhancer. Not sure if it contains serotonin or not, and I’ve never taken it. But it may be cheaper, I really have no idea. Maybe post something asking if people have tried taking 5HTP or St. John’s Wort and what results they got to decide which to get?
Hope this helps!

Q: what kind of foods should I kick out of my diet if I want clear skin and no depression?
Im physically depressed, have been for a very long time. My face is not a pizza but the little bit of pimples I do have is a sure sign that my diet is not what it could be or should be. What kind of foods help clear skin and depression and what kind of foods make skin worse and depression worse?

A: Basically just eat a variety of vegetables and fruits with good protein sources like beans or lean meat with evey meal. Don’t eat any junk food or fake sweets. Drink lots of water and like 3 cups of real green tea(not in the bottle stuff). Fish or omega 3 pills are really good for the skin. There’s probably many sites about this kind of thing if you just google it really. Good luck.

Q: What are some foods which help with depression and anxiety?

A: Any food that is high in protein and even fat. They increase serotonin production. Lean beef, fish (also high in omega fatty acids) and chicken. I have depression and anxiety and I need to have some protein in every meal or I will suddenly start to get agitated for no reason at all. I also found peanuts to be a great snack in between meals for me. Other things that have also worked for me are calcium (citrate) tablets and getting enough son.
Hope this helps.

Q: Is there any good food for depression?
If you have depression, is there a special food that can help you. Is there any treatment without using a pyshcologist or doctor?

A: http://www.whfoods.com/genpage.php?tname=fightdz&dbid=12 – Cached

http://www.depressionhelper.net/39 – Cached

http://www.webmd.com/depression/news/20050210/do-some-foods-battle-depression – 113k – Cached

Q: Food has a connection with depression?
I wanted to know what foods make depression worse and what foods can help fight depression?

A: I don’t think there is any foods that can make depression worse. However, too much food can. Eat healthy foods and limit your fat and sugar intake.

Q: Can We Talk About Foods that will help Beat Depression?
I know that it wont beat it all together but I would be interested in what you know about this and your experiences?

A: actually there was a recent study saying that salt is an antidepressant. check it out!

Q: Menstruation and severe depression?
Every single month I get severely depressed for one day to a week DURING my period. It isn’t before my period so I don’t think it’s PMDD, it’s always during. Does anyone know anything to help relieve the depression, foods I should eat or anything like that? Or does anyone know of what I could be experiencing other then simply PMS?

A: I’ve had problems off and on in the past with depression on and around my period, especially when I was on the pill or depo. It helped when I wasn’t on hormonal birth control and had it all out of my system (depo stayed with me for a few years, and I’ve just recently become free of it).

Other things that seem to help: eating fresh, whole food like fruits and veggies, rice, pasta, whole grains, lean meat, maybe some dairy, meals that you make yourself from scratch. Avoid processed foods and high fructose corn syrup (a highly processed sweetener), hydrogenated oils (margarine and shortening) artificial sweeteners, preservatives, and other additives. Avoid anything in a little package, and try to eat simply.

Excercise, even if you don’t want to. It gets your mind off your feelings, and releases happy chemicals in your brain. And try to get out with some friends who can cheer you up.

Also, writing can help a lot, both to vent your feelings, and to keep track of when you feel these things and what may set it off. Try keeping a journal, noting when you feel really good and really bad, what you eat, the stressful situations in your life (if any), and what’s going on.

Of course, if you are depressed to the point of feeling suicidal, or even just thinking about it, you should get help from a professional. Don’t let yourself get to the point where you’re in danger.

Hang in there. Hope this helps!

Q: Are there certain foods you can eat to help depression?
Thanks, and please don’t say take pills for depression(i know this is also good and helps),but id like to also here about food options too
hey guys i noticed alot of u are suggesting junk food,is there more healthy alternatives, cheers!

A: sweets specially chocolate.

So I was wondering if there are any online support groups where I could talk on or someone I could talk to online? This is only temporary for 6 months.
I saw the school psychologist in high school and I exagerrated some things out of anger which caused the school to call child services. This got my parents in trouble. Although my parents were cleared I don’t want to give them that trouble again. In six months my brother will be 18 so I won’t have to worry about something like that happening.
I will only be talking online for help for 6 months. In 6 months I will go see a psychatrist for help.
In six months my brother will be 18 which makes him an adult. Which means if I say anything like I did in high school DCF or child services can’t cause my parents any more trouble.
I’m 21. My brother is still a minor. I just don’t want anything that comes out of my mouth, especially out of anger to hurt him
No I don’t ahve a pastor or anyone else to talk to. I’ve been isolating myself lately.

Q: Does anyone know of any good online support groups for depression/social anxiety?
I looked through Google search results but I don’t know which ones are any good. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

A: The support groups for depression on the third page of section 2, at http://www.ezy-build.net.nz/~shaneris were all recommended by people at Y!A previously, but I have none regarding social anxiety (except through search engines).

Check out the COMPREHENSIVE POST, though, in section 9, which is often awarded “best answer”; also see page R, in section 2, about depression, which I amended, slightly, after having it constructively criticised by a mental health professional with over 20 years of experience.

Q: Would you join an online depression group?
How and how much do you think they would or wouldnt help you?

A: I probably would. Might help you discussing and gaining opinions and answers on personal stuff…

Q: I was assigned to be a learder of a small anxiety/ depression group. what should i do?
what ever activities that help people with anxiety or have fun. time just 10 minutes.

A: Make them do something that makes them laugh or smile. This will help the depressed people feel good for at least 10 mins. of their day and will not make the people with anxiety become hyper…which could bring on their problems.

Q: Does anyone know of any support groups for depression in Northeast San Antonio?
I am hoping to meet with people with like problems to help me find solutions, and contacts. Thanks, pf

A: I have some very specific information for you from the Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance. The Christian Community of San Antonio is one support group. The woman’s name is Barbara Livingston and her number is (830) 624-8341. I also have another name and number for you. It’s Kathy Franklin (210) 945-0689. Both of those people should be able to help you. Good luck and I hope you feel better.

“Raptor”

Q: What are some online support groups for people with depression/bipolar disorder?
I’ve heard that there are onlne support groups for people who have been diagnosed with a mental illness such as depression or bipolar disorder. If you have any recommendations, please let me know. I think an online group might help me relieve some of my feelings of isolation when I am alone. I know that an in-person type of group might be beneficial as well, but I’d like to start slowly.

A: http://lmgtfy.com/?q=online+depression+support+groups

Q: Depression support groups?
Have you ever/do you attend a depression support group in your area? I cannot afford treatment or medication and this is my only option. Did this help you? Why or why not? What should I expect at a meeting?

A: NAMI is a good resource. I’ve attended three DBSA (Depression Bipolar Support Alliance) meetings. The only reason I don’t continue is that they aren’t held in my area. Meetings can be very helpful. Who better to talk to about how you’re feeling than someone who’s had a similar experience, right?

At a meeting expect to tell people your first name, your disorder (depression), and how things are going or a bit about yourself. If you want to hang out & just listen, that’s cool too. The people there care & may be able to help you tap into community resources you’re currently unaware of.

Q: Are there any free online Depression Support Groups or online counselors or therapists?
I’m pretty sure I have depression. I’m a college student and I just can’t afford to even go to the doctor to get it verified. I’ve taken countless quizzes and tests online that says I have it horribly! I was wondering, is there any support groups that could help me, or any online therapists? I would greatly appreciate it. It is ruining my life, I’ve already lost my job, I’m on the brink of flunking college, and not to mention my relationships with my family and friends are on the fritz. Please help!

A: You’ll have more luck with google then the most of the jalapenos on this site. I left you a couple of links at the bottom of what I came across as reference.

A: Hi there, beyondblue is a fantastic site for someone who suffers from anything from depression, anxiety disorders, ocd or anything like that.

Q: depression support groups (preferably free) near 11730 or 11752 ? please, its important.?
my best friend is depressed. ive been trying all i can to help, but he needs to talk to a counselor or someone that can relate. i know that if i bring him to a support group it would help him, even if it only helped him a little, hes my best friend, and hes lost all hope in the everything. please, im trying to google it and i cant find anything that would be in person, everything i google is an online support group-which i know he wont do. so please, something in person, and things i can say to him to make him feel better. anything helps.. thanks

A: you would think that in a world where there are support groups for almost anything, there would be one for depression, but i too cannot find a single one and i’ve checked out several states. So, I started my own, i advertised it in the papers in my area, and on the given date, I had sixty people show up, needless to say, we were rather crammed together in my house, so next time we agreed that we would all chip in for renting a large room once or twice a month. Then I found a church that would let us use their basement every week if we wanted, we now meet twice a month. Some come, all the time, some come and go as they feel the need, but there is always a group of from twenty to sixty people, and all benefit from seeing that others are dealing with the same thing. it took me about a month to get things really rolling, but that is what I did.

Q: What were the ethnic groups in Mississippi during the Great Depression?
I’ve been searching and i can’t find what i’m looking for…I need to find out the ethnic groups, it doesn’t have to be percents, but just general groups (ie. Asian, African American, and etc..) during the Great Depression (1930’s) in Mississippi.
If you know any websites or other sources with this would be great..so please help!! T~T

A: whites, blacks, chinese, indian

Q: Where I can find live support groups?
I cant seem to find a depression support group that I can go to.
Please help

A: Best to ring the local mental health clinic and they can inform you if there are any going and give you the details etc
and you can go from there!

Best of Luck!

Q: What can someone take for….?
What can I take for depression/mood swings? I am not clinically depressed, its only been the last few days that I have been really irritable and extremely miserable. There is nothing for me to be depressed about, nothing is wrong, nothing has happened, everything is alright in my life So I have no idea why I feel this way. Maybe some chemical imbalance??
Usually I can get myself out of bad moods with a little pep talk but for some reason I can seem to shake this.
Is there any kind of natural herb (not marijuana ) that I can take? I cant take St Johns Wart, last time I broke out in hives. I need something to shake these mood swings and depression. Please help.

A: Passion flower is a lovely herb, and it would be perfect for what you describe. You don’t need a “steady state” dosage for mild, periodic anti-anxiety/anti-depressant effects. (Though this herb can effectively be applied that way for clinical depression or generalized anxiety.) Check the ingredient lists on some “sleepy time” teas at your local health food store… very likely you’ll find one with passion flower (Passiflora incarnata) in it. Enjoy a cup or two of tea each evening, as needed.

Tea is actually particularly good for this, because the ceremony/ritual of making a cup of tea is part of managing the anxiety. (Behaviour is a big contributor to mood.) So making your daily brew becomes a part of a “stress management” routine.

Q: What are the symptoms of depression and when should drugs be used for treatment?
Like symptoms other than the obvious ones like feeling down.

When does someone get the point where help from medication is needed. I know someone who is suffering from a form of depression but is worried that the antidepression tablets will have worse side effects. Its hard to know if its severe depression or even depression at all.

A: According to the diagnostic and statistical manual IV, “Major depression” is classified as at least 5 out of the 9 symptoms, one of which must be:

1/ Feeling depressed/down
or
2/ Feeling like nothing interests you anymore – even things that you used to like doing

for most of the day, for most days of the week

The other 7 symptoms are:
Fatigue
Poor attention
Change in appetite/weight
Sleep changes (sleeping more or sleeping less with or without early morning wakening)
Everything slows down (the person moves slower, speaks slower, etc.)
Feeling excessively guilty / at fault / worthless
Suicidal thoughts/thoughts that life isn’t worth living

Yes it is true that there are side effects to the medications, but if the person is quite depressed that it’s affecting their life substantially, medications might be needed – if only to help them pick themselves up again.

This is especially the case if suicidal thoughts are involved as their safety is of significant importance.

However, one thing you need to keep in mind is that these medications take a long time to work.. at least 6 weeks for them to start to feel better. They may even feel worse after a week or 2. They also need to continue the medications for 12 months for it to be effective.

Counseling might be an option initially if the person you’re talking about is wary about taking drugs and worried about their side effects, but if there is any indication of suicidal ideation, it could be quite serious and counseling might not be enough. All the best!

Q: How long does it take to get rid of depression after taking medication?
my husband in major depression from the past one month . now he is hospitalised and taking escitalopram 20 mg per day from last two weaks . even now he seems to be depressed and he tried for suicide 2 times he always thought of suicide and he does’nt want to return to work . he feel less energetic & lazy
is it possible to recover from depression after one month & to go to job agin . i am really worried about his suicidal ideation. please help me . but his doctor gave him assurance to get rid of of him from the depression.

A: Sometimes it takes up to 30 days for the meds to work.

Q: Can depression affect chances of conceiving a viable pregnancy?
I had an ectopic pregnancy about a year ago and am really struggling to get over our loss. I have good days and bad days but overall I feel like I’m a little depressed. We’ve been trying to conceive for roughly 9 months with no success and that’s really adding to the depression. Could the fact that I am depressed affect our chances? If so, are there any medications I could take that would help with the depression without harming a pregnancy?

A: Depression probably wouldn’t have so much to do with it, to be honest. But, it is a red flag to me that you had an ectopic pregnancy. The reason why you aren’t getting pregnant again is because you could have a blockage in your tube(s) that’s causing a problem with either the sperm getting to the egg or with implantation. My suggestion is that you have an HSG (dye test) done to see if your tubes are clear.

The only other thing is to verify that you are ovulating. This can be done with a simple blood test 7 days after you suspect ovulation took place. If you are having trouble ovulating there’s medication they can give you to help.

Good luck to you, I’m very sorry for your loss. I wish you peace and healing.

Q: How to get over depression without use of prescription drugs?
I had a baby 8 months ago and was monitored because of post-partum depression. While that has gone away, I seem to have become severly depressed from things other than the baby. I lack any motivation to do things, even eating is a struggle. I do eat but usually not until I have been starving for hours. I just don’t want to get up until it’s so bad that I’m in pain. I at one point had to get treatment for panic disorder. It was gone for awhile but is back again. My main problem is not being able to become motivated enough to do daily activities. I know exercise will help me but I can’t do that when I have no energy.

I hate prescriptions. Please don’t suggest any of those to me. Any herbal or natural remedies would be great though. Thanks.

A: You could look into acupuncture, Tui Na massage, reflexology or Shiatsu, they can all lift me from the dolldrums.
Aromatherapy oils and chinese herbal medicine can be helpful too.
And will power … a lot of it …

Q: How can I treat clinical depression without taking any antidepressants?
I’ve had severe depression for a long time, and would like to get help for it, but I don’t want to get on antidepressants, because I’m worried I may become addicted to them or stay on them for too long, or they may not even work.

Unfortunately, I don’t really believe in psychotherapists and psychologists. I wouldn’t want to tell a complete stranger my private business.

Any other suggestions?

A: I know you said that you wouldn’t want to tell a complete stranger your business. I don’t know if it’s just face to face if you would maybe feel more comfortable with talking with someone on the phone or online there is a lot of helplines out there and support groups online. Do be careful though as some of these websites are very triggerring and remember keep yourself safe watch what kind of imformation you give out, you sound wise enough anyway to know this. Anti-depressents isn’t the answer to all your prayers anyways babe and I think you are being very smart to make a choice like you have well done. I would like to say though think again about seeing someone because although there a stranger at first you do get to know them, you don’t need to straight away dive into talking about all your problems and telling them everything about them, your in control of what they know and if it doesn’t work out you have the right to change person or leave altogether, I wasn’t keen on therapy at first now I have been in therapy for over 6 years and I have had many different workers good and bad but it has helped me in the long run. take care and good luck with whatever you decide to do.

Q: What should i do if my wife has manic depression?
My wife and I have been married for 8 yrs now with 3 children. I believe my wife has manic depression.
The problem is she is in denial and will not go for the necessary tests or diagnosing. This is very difficult at home to say the least. Constant verbal and physical abuse for about 5yrs now, towards myself and the kids.
Our oldest child is 6 and youngest 2.
I feel my job as a husband should be to support my wife but I always get hurt in the process. I take my marriage vows very seriously and am a born again christian, but am actually contemplating divorce.

Plz help me what should I do?

PS. Her mother believes she has it and her father had been hospitalised for 1-2 yrs for manic depression and is now on the maximum dossage you can give to someone before hospitalisation.

A: You can only confront her about it, but unless she is a physical danger to herself or others, it would be morally wrong to force treatment on her. Instead of playing psychiatrist and telling her she’s bipolar as that is something no one wants to hear since that means medication (and psych meds are hell), ask her if she’ll go to marriage counselling with you. It can help a little bit, at least with the verbal abuse. Just because she has violent mood swings doesn’t mean that she should be constantly abusive. She might want to try counselling herself. The medications are hell and personally, unless her bipolar is very severe or she wants to try them, I don’t think it’s worth the side effects.
